~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
when she was born, she was the star of sweetness,
the warm light of heart, the spectrum of every possibility
the entire world revolved about her angelic whispers
and her bold cries squalled into the world yet to be known
who would ever imagine she’d grow
into such a beautiful dreamer, thinker, creative force
yet, the world is heavy and the sky, full of holes
and she has much to learn on flying alone
Going solo can be frightening for all parties involved. As always, an excellent write.
I often feel this way about my daughter. One person, though, motivated, can move mountains. Nature does everything in abundance. This, in order to find that diamond in the rough. Will this person be the one?? Maybe. Could be. Why not? Great poem!!
your thoughts captured beautifully in this poetic expression Jude -- to solo, to soar, to be as one with the sky to learn of the treacheries out there that lie -- peace and love my friend -- Jon Michael
Very well said, Jude. Those precious babies grow, learn, and move off into the world with their own wings--we can't forget who helped them learn to fly! e
Stated with the hopeful, loving perfection that can only come from an awe struck father. It is sad, in a way, to see them so grown up and no longer in need of our kisses on bruised knees and our arms as balms for broken hearts. On the other side of it, it is breathtaking to see them so beautiful, alive and full of hope. It reminds us of the unsquashable spirit we once had, before we learned about all the twists and turns that would make up our lifetime...yet, there is a beauty in the journey that becomes so much more than the reaching of our pre-set goals could ever match. Wonderful and heart-warming offering, Jude.
Take care,
Sherry
Beautifully said, Jude. When I read the last two lines,
I think of my twin granddaughters who will be 12 in June.
... or the skies heavy and the earth full of holes in my own recent experience! :)) This is heart-achingly beautiful, Jude. Every Daddy has such starry-eyed and romanticised belief sorrounding his daughter and I truly believe that it is this that gives each little girl wings and the ability to fly. That's perhaps why those of us who "never had one" may be very late in attaining spiritual and emotional maturity. But, with you as navigator and father, she'll learn pretty darn quick, right? And fly straight,true and with confidence. She's a lucky girl.
But, on more objective musing, if this is a Petra Pan, then perhaps she will forever continue to fly solitary, protected by her dreams and the denial of the actuality of fear and danger around her. And, if this is a Cinderella who is not unaccustomed to hardships and forces out to bring her down, then she will already know that she is already raised to Princess-status purely on the grace, beauty, strength and goodwill invested in her by others. Such a one can never be or even feel alone. And her teachable spirit and humility of mind and soul will rise protected on the warm currents of air she knows to be supplied by the love and tender feelings afforded to her by words such as these. Personally, I love this write. Thank you. xx
"the world is heavy and the sky, full of holes" What a stunning statement! After 24 years, I'm still a Mom looking out for all the holes she might not see. Good to read you again.
Brilliant. I have no fear of flying. It's the sex I'm (most fathers) am worried about. ;-)
I'm not a father--just feel their pain.
Jude,
This is absolutely stunning. Much love and warm emotions are found in your words. Letting go of our children is difficult, because we always want to protect and watch over them. But with that letting go, that child becomes free to find who they are and make a difference in our confusing and scary world. If we did our job right, they will find their way with out too many bumps. I feel that you did your job well.
Much peace, love, and light,
Amber "V"
Only fathers of daughters have the privilege to enter that world of giggles, face exploring little hands and inconsolable weeping.
Then, they grow, and daddy becomes the crutches that they don't need anymore.
Thanks for the memories.
Once again you reach into our minds and hearts and touch the fiber of our imagination. I think this will be read and interpreted in many ways but to me it reminds me of my daughter and how I have watched her from infant to present and all the miracles of life she has lived to become the wonderful woman she is today. thanks Jude for putting into words what I would love to say to her...
Jude, I'm imagining that you wrote this for your daughter, but maybe not. In any case, this is written so beautifully and says so much about the world in general, let alone anything that we may come into it with. Beautiful piece.
Didn't we all have much to learn when first we left the "womb" of dad & mom's protection...I for one was a slow learner, my dad & mom were STUCK with me till I was like in my late 20's, LOL...with your intelligence as a part of her (if she is your daughter) I am sure she will soar...I wish her much luck and happiness...Ed & Rufuz
