~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
looking into the shadows of a flickering candle
spellbound by the contours of night,
i plunge into arroyo
of my emotive grand canyon
careful not to stumble from the edge
or sidetracked off the path i typically venture -
my heart waxes the nimbus of dreams
and stratums of my soul
are deeply infused
in the shifting bedrock of being-
a small flame dances across the darkness
glimpsed from the depths of space,
and a sole silhouette
treks across earth's matter, then disappears …
Where there's a flicker, you can find hope. You write with a soft, quiet beauty and such insight.
a whole poem of devotion for the whole being. just to point out lines that struck me -
'(...) i plunge into arroyo
of my emotive grand canyon' - >
(...)
'deeply infused
in the shifting bedrock of being (...)'
absolutely pure matter of thought in life-changing passion.
thank you!
Out of body, we see our dark shadow cover the earth, and we see how we are. Time passes with us, and we undergo the shift of being to another form of physical (knowable) self.
Hi Jude,
As always, you've title this with great precision and accuracy of content. I think I've said it before, but you truly live on the pulse of humanity and write it's greater depths and wider surroundings that are not seen or felt by many. Thank you, Jude.... =)
rich vapor trail cedes into a berg of floating ectoplasm with such a fall off the face of the cliff exposing the elements beaten by wind and rain...passage, an earth science and strata of erosion, fossils and trilobites, this poetry walks through the depths of time, a phrase of Herman Melville's, "God's foothold upon the treadle of the loom"...for better or worse, that creature is man...pinnacles and cliffs, an individual's faith or lack of it need not be thrust upon another...when the ice melted...
Like seeking some sort of hidden North West Passage in space and time, directed by a shooting star, this soooo reminds me of the mind-blowing experience of "being there" last year: height, depth, all sense of scale is completely blown apart by standing on the Canyon's edge - and it ain't fenced, either! Miles down; ten miles from North to South Rim; air so pure it picks up any trace of smog from distant places. You can definitely feel time and space shift here and it's for certain sure a place where dreams wax lyrical and large as an autumn Harvest moon. Auras abound and are as sharp and living, energised as is this beauty of a poem and I quite believe you would pick up, even in peripheral vision, a sole/soul silhouette - be it as dainty as a butterfly or as vast as BigFoot! - as it makes it's way over the many faces of it.
... Better stop. Having Joey B's "Mountain Time" going round and round on the player in my car means that I inhabit this remembrance pretty much 360 at the moment! Hence the vividness. But I'll just leave you with this recent NaPoWriMo which I think dovetails nicely in this instance; on file it's entitled "Love and Solitude", and is also on my mind as the atmosphere of this write also resonates with the "campfire" feel I had when speaking of our AD sense of spiritual/artistic cohesion and journeying on Amber's lovely tribute last night:
After long hours of solitude
in the saddle of a mind
exploring deep canyons,
dark space
fine company trots in close
as a campfire’s naked flame
dancing across an old love’s face
... I think that sole silhouette will guard, direct and preserve you always, inside and out, Kartero, and that somehow you will never be alone, even within your solitude. Wishing you always safe and smooth passage, Amigo. Kanyon Kate xx
Finding a comfortable place from where we can tap into all of the parallels we inhabit, opens the mind to such vast imaginings. It is so true that this physical life, that we are living within at this moment, is fragile and but a tiny fragment of the lifetimes we know and possess. Some emotions, that move us deeply, are so rooted here in this time and space, that we can make ourselves a prisoner of the here and now if we fail to acknowledge our dreams. Excellent musings, Jude.
Take care,
Sherry
From the depths of such a passionate and caring soul, you actually get a glimpse of what could be..Only you, have this type of soul that just knows...
Filling the arroyo of your most deepest canyon, is a tall task, but I know that when the time is just right, there will be no turning back, you will become fulfilled in all aspects of your life, here on Earth. Don't let that elusive silhouette get too far from you, you can lose out on the best thing that could ever happen to you.
As always you challenge my mind and captivate my heart.
Good work, Shaman man, I just love this.
Peace, love and light,
Amber
I appreciate the metaphors and the images that awaken thought as I read your verses, Jude. I think you mean "spellbound" in the second verse. To me, the "small flame" conjures up symbolic significance. Thank you. Love and peace to you,
