the open road stretched for miles
like a dream mired
in a haze of broken horizons

a constant stare
upon the blackened parchment

a voice spoken
echoing in a skull of thoughts
preoccupied with a destined moment

fixating on the vanishing point
shapes and patterns
sent by an elusive deity
form archetypal connotations

shouting suggestions of velocity
while driving back home

contained to a continuous momentum
a strange driver’s sunglasses
shine into the distance of the unforeseen

As always, you have guided us along a mental and emotional highway
where signs point to Contemplation, then a detour that passes
through Insight and Delight. Before we hit another highway, we stop
at AHA... ala "contained to a continuous momentum a strange
driver's sunglasses shine into the distance of the unforeseen."

GREAT TRIP!!

Put my name on the sign-up sheet for the next one. Don't forget
to stop and pick me up!

...gotta run buy new shades...

And I read this poem just after reading John Flanagan's "The Appian Way." What a wonderful counterpoint! You've captured the aspirit of how it feels out on the superhighway wonderfully.

You instill so much into your poems, Jude, they have to be slowly read and savored, like you would vintage wine or fine food.Fascinating!

Why didn't I think of the movie, Vanishing Point. Sure loved that movie.

Jude, Immediately my mind went back to 1971 movie "Vanishing Point" The wildness of speed and the excitement of the chase comes to the forefront. It was a time of innocence and speed to the max with the muscle cars of the sixties and seventies...I had a 65 Chevelle super sport, I also drove a 442 and a transam during those days of speed and free spirit living (hippie days to say the least)...those were the days my friend.

Vanishing point of no return, where two roads merged in the distance as if appearing as one...such a wonderful write to bring me back to my gearhead days....thanks

Much peace light and love,
Amber

A poetic peculiarity in the very best sense, Jude,
the journey throws up endless horizons and a fixation
on the inevitable vanishing point when we ....
whether we live in the real or the imagined.

... love these groovy writes of yours, Kartero! :)) So many filigree strands to separate and combine: makes me think "space oddity" and Arizona/Texas desert highroads whilst meditating strains of your previous poems, acts of flight and seasonal, for example; that strange funnelling/bearing down to the "vanishing point" of an elusive horizon and always wondering "who's in the driving seat here, spinning out this seemingly endless story of parallel worlds?" Sage's take is, as ever, fascinating: love that "iris out"-thing and, yeah, makes me think of how a parallel world is often speed-shot from a usually quiet scene somewhere else to the shot of the shades in the rearview mirror, the driver at speed with the top down somewhere miles' away. What drives us if not the passion to collide or convene with/on the inevitable sometime? Like a Whitesands speed test, this kicks up more than a little dust on the way back to Mother Ship! :)) Muy bueno, Amigo. xx

today's "oddity" is an exploratory probe into tomorrow's new reality -- celestial tarmac beckons the adventurous spirit -- all the while we are being observed by the master driver of the universe -- jude, I latched onto your back bumper and this was an enjoyable journey -- a keeper to read and enjoy many times over -- I bid you love and peace my dear friend -- Jon Michael

Weird, Jude. I'm reading a book titled, "The Walk," by Richard Paul Evans, and although he is walking rather than driving, he has, more of less, the same fixation on the road up ahead. Nice work.

The simple or seemingly simple methaphor of life and the open road comes together well in this one Jude but I can also feel the underlying complexities and emotions of the things we can't always see or grasp in our perusal of your work. Well done.

Do you squint to see if you can get a clear image of what lies beyond the point of obscurity? I always seem to catch myself doing that, as though it would help in the same way it does when I am driving along in my daily travels. Just what I need....another way to get my wrinkles. Nice work, Jude.
Take care,

Visual tonicity, the elastic tension of living muscles, arteries, etc. that facilitate response to stimuli. In screenwriting terminology we call it "Iris Out"...a wipe from the center of a frame out in all directions. It's a transition. Scene A is water and Scene B is the substance underneath pulling Scene A off of Scene B like a squeegie, suggesting a passage of time. Last stanza's a dark area coming into a passage. What is the ethereal road layered with? Is is just air and gases, or perhaps a filler cushion of another substance? Paved with collective leftover DNA?
