~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
lights over Matrex
dance upon misty swirls of harbor horns
and peaking crests of distant shorelines
cooling my tethered thoughts
waiting to sail away
to disembark from homeport
and the familiarity of the landscape
the clanging of windswept sails
and the mysterious
warmth of unknown lands
are quite enticing
dreaming of tomorrow
onboard another time
where travelers arrive to be forgotten
"It is better to travel hopefully than to arrive" - so said the man who wrote both Treasure Island and Dr Jeykll and Mr Hyde - so maybe he knew what he was talking about! :)) You takin up your Mat(rex) and walkin... or rather, sailing... to Ireland, Kartero?! I'm sure you'll not be forgotten there! And Ma-trex or Star Treks? Is this the on-going journey back to Mother Ship, I wonder?! Ooooooo you know how all these cute little mind-and-word-matrexes get me going... And this is good'un! Harbour horns and peaking crests are totally irresistible... Good job I'm tethered! destination of the Dreamer who is wise to his everchanging horizon. I enjoy the line
"where travelers arrive to be forgotten" ... kinda says something about the fast world nowadays and the people not taking time to express a nicety or inquire of well-being of the traveler who is but a fleeting stranger and the deck of the vessel gets more eye contact than the stranger because feet trample more distance between us every day. I feel such a hint of reality here at lights over Matrex. Another day, another horizon, Jude.
I enjoyed the familiar ideas expressed in this poem with soft beautiful verses, until another feeling left me wondering... the mystery of those travelers that "arrive to be forgotten". Could be the beginning of another poem...
yes, safe harbor and peace
Safe harbor is what the poet seeks, a long journey toward his destiny. Arriving as a time traveler anonymous and content. What more can a dreamer need? Enticement is a very strong word, if the feelings are there, go with them, entice away! Sail away toward fun and excitement, one only lives once and perhaps another chance if they are lucky.
Much peace, light and love,
Amber
Your verse is like a vortex; pulling me in and swirling me through time and space. What lovely images you paint, Jude. I could hear the clanging of the ropes against the masts of a harbor filled with sailboats, waiting to be released onto the open sea, captained by sailors in search of their destiny. Stunning beauty.
Take care,
Sherry
Lovely ethereal quality, Jude,
mist and warmth drawing poet and reader alike;
last line i've often felt, that moment of anonymity
so rewarding.
jude, is it the allure of the unknown or the desire to return the security of the home shores? I have difficulty determining which it is that makes us long so. Your poem is evocative and I will ponder and seek what the truth of which it is for me. I bid you love and peace my dear friend. Jon Michael
i think we all feel this wanderlust deep within, the desire to embark on a mystical journey propelled by a certain homesickness really, a need to arrive back from whence we came...each line here is so extremely evocative of the murky thoughts which swirl in my head; but thanks to you, have crystallized into sharply defined images....great piece.
You know I sailed on many ships when I was younger and the sight of lights on shore at night were always breathtaking but also left one feeling so lonely and cut off from the world, all that is except the lights of home port...
