~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
           she speaks with an unusual vernacular,
         one I have a hard time syncing into
     but it doesn’t really matter, she probably thinks
             I sound like I’m from another world
       and perhaps she’s right
          perhaps, she has forgotten the moments
    when inspired discourse ruled
                  our synchronized correspondence
          at least the written word
           disallows distorted dialects
                      yet, still endorses
             the outer contours of wayward dreams
      but that’s water
way over the bridge
                   I can't even imagine
                         the suspension beams anymore
      they all have vanished
                           under the depths of our own weight
              drowning
        in an awkward sea of soundless yelps
Sometimes there are people who love each other never understand each other because they speack different love languages. Great poem.
...we receive the sounds we are synaptically tuned to hear - notwithstanding the uniqueness of each voice, I think. But words on a page are totally different; little black and white marks (like notes of music) that are open to interpretation - to harmony or dissonance - perhaps even more than oral dialogue. It's a shame when shared visions are overwhelmed in seas of semantics, lost amidst miscommunicating silences, erased by mists of time and place; such bridges may be breached and suspension beams disintegrateed in the far reaches of the mind, but who can forget each individual Catalina-moment of pure synchrony for the way it once made you FEEL: alive and connected in an eternal moment for certain sure! This is indeed a "roshan" write, Kartero, showing how, even though we may all ultimately inhabit a planet of one in terms of our poor attempts at human communication, the desire to put 1 + 1 together and make either 2 or 11 is totally irresistible, unpredictable... and both will always be right! :)) A story of all old loves, lost loves and frustrated loves - and one that shows that, yaps and yelps apart, the heart WILL always go on... Keep swimming! xx
Very lucid lines about language, speech and the written word. Intriguing articulation that leads to the bridge imagery, one that I always find interesting...
Jude,
I have read this poem over and over, trying to get a handle on what you are trying to say. I feel a sense of withdrawal from a broken relationship that just isn't working any longer...Sounds to me like you are in a cocoon of your own, just waiting for that time to break free. There is nothing like the present moment to succeed...
relationships come and go, people have moments of clarity and when the time is right, clarity and love will prevail..
Much in need of my own breaking out also..I believe it's time for all light people to break out of their routines and go toward that elusive butterfly's flight and take wing and fly, fly, fly!!!
Much peace, light and love,
Amber
when the analysis openly begins, strained relations cannot be far behind -- for interpretation is as individual a process as can be imagined -- is it all in the dialect, in the vernacular, or is it really in the semantics and innuendo -- non-verbal communications play such a subjective part of our verbal exchanges -- me thinks it is none of these -- it is the pure desire to abide that is the make or break root of relationships -- we all callously offer everything else as the sacrificial lambs for failure -- good stimulus for me this day jude -- I bid you joy, love and peace my dear friend -- Jon Michael
HAHAHA! Too bloody right mate, it's not just the American dialect, but the diction that is used in live convo' that is near impossible to understand. Yet on the page, it is as you say. (Almost)
Outstanding write, as ever. I love the humour within humour in this poem. Tops!
So many of us seem to be drowning these days.
No one can be everything for anyone and some just can't be anything for someone. It is a twisted web when we try to keep people in our lives whom we knew, early on, were not a right fit for us. I have found myself intrigued by some of those people though, and have revisited that state of confused hell that materializes when we try to communicate. You are right when you say it seems like that particular duo each come from different planets, it is impossible to find a common ground where the two can stand and enjoy one another's company; they speak a different language on all levels. Happy Thanksgiving, Jude.
Take care,
Sherry
First, let me say that I'm so glad that you have recovered your vision and can post so frequently as before. So many have dropped off in ill health.
I always thought water "flowed under the bridge," but in this case it appears that everything about the written correspondence was "over the top," while when an actual conversation communication failed.
This appears to be autobiographical, but that's okay, because it brings out your best.
