~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I waited, waited what seemed forever
               for the echo of your voice
            to return
    and point me in the direction
                 of its origin
                   but the nature of your resonance
           materializes simultaneously,
 in a multitude of soul numbing ricochets
            and so puzzles my direction of pursuit
                              so I will wait
         until the location of your voice deepens
                      into its highest frequency
                       and my wait will depend
       on the depth and stature of your center
        and will be of great anticipation
                            until your voice
                                                      reverberates through the canyons of my heart
                       in warm flow of silence
        followed by the rhythm of its source
The voice resonates, one hears irt, but cannot locate it. Where does it come from? Could it be that this voice of the "other" originates from inside and remains evergreen despite the separation, and that the more one attends this voice, the3 more accessible it becomes?
As darlin Sage points out, what is more deeply satisfying and yielding of an unshakeable peace than being cupped in the nurturing hands of a twin kindred spirit, be it for a mere moment or an eternity? Your patient quiescence here so reminds me of the sentiments of my old "At Yaki Point" write and I love how this poem is the symmetry of mirrored stillness: past/future, height/depth, resonance/silence, waiting/pursuit. From the Top of The Rock to the base sediments of the Colorado canyons, this speaks of a sonic graffiti etched on the DNA of ether that constantly reverbs the testament that "xx was here". As Susie Palmer's poem beneath this posting commented, "say nothing unless you can improve upon silence"; such is my contentment right now that my voice is beautifully numbed and dumbed by a flatline of feathers! I love this addition to your "wait, waiting" series: a warm and rhythmic flow indeed. xx
This isn't so much about the poem, Jude, as it is about your and my poetry-friendly relationship. It needn't ever come to an end. I love you man.
Always,
delivered with perfect pitch
like a well-earned Dunmow Flitch
resoundingly sounded depth charge
expressive of a mindful urge
pursuit of paradox complete
richly cadenced no small feat
I can see the forese through this tease
a penetrating mind, a heart that frees
a soul that probes, a spirit that sees
Sounds like a long term commitment to find that, Jude, but good on you for not settling for anything less. I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
Take care,
Sherry
Wonderful nuance, which to me reflects that dance, that music that needs the space between the notes...
Yes, there is a resonance here that echoes within my heart. You know how to bring your readers to their knees.
To me, this is absolutely one of your most hearttouching, soul shaking poems of late. It resonates with beautiful energy and peaceful imagining.
Much peace, light and love,
Amber
