indelible flight

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
   where do we go after we die?
notably, to a place where no one’s alive
what do we do when the sunset is gone?
  dream of the twilight?
        surrender to the dawn?
     when our bones are grounded
    or incinerated into ash,
   does the wind blow our souls
      into an afterlife we grasp?
     is there sound or sight,
    or absence of light?
    a heaven or hell,
       or another spell?
  I wonder, as I am still alive,
 does the spirit persist
       and continue to survive?
    or does it remain as a vaporous thing,
  without the will to dance and sing?
   my query will be answered
  when the time is right,
when I fly on into that mysterious,
         indelible flight
There is a tendency for most to ponder death with all kinds of negative forecast. Here, however, rational questions are asked with answers for the taking (by the reader only) and an ending that serves the imagination to soar even further.
Your words awaken thought and reflection, Jude. Your theme is universal and timeless. Very nicely expressed. Thank you. Love and peace to you,
Questions all thinking people through the ages have asked. I truly believe we will be more alive! Thought provoking pen Jude.
The timeless question. You have done a great job with the asking and of course, I love the rhyme; it adds a kind of humanistic quality to a non-human situation...what happens when we shed our shell and only our energy remains. If Steve Jobs was trying to tell us, he certainly make it seem amazing and wonderful. I see it as another journey though I have no idea where that journey will lead me.
Take care,
Sherry
I THINK BY NOW ALL OF MY FRIENDS HERE IN MY AD NEIGHBORHOOD...KNOW ME, SO I GUESS WHAT I AM ABOUT TO SAY IS NOT SUPRISING. OH, JUDE, I CAN HARDLY IMAGINE THE BEAUTY OF IT! AN ABSOLUTE...INDELIBLE FLIGHT! I WILL SOAR ON THE WINGS OF MORNING...SOAR INTO 'HIS' WAITING, OUTSTRETCHED ARMS TO EVERMORE PARTAKE....OF 'HIS' ETERNAL JOY. FREE! FREE...FROM ALL HEARTACHES AND ALL PAIN! AND I AM NOT LIKE SOME WHO SEEM TO THINK THAT WE WILL ENJOY THIS KIND OF FREEDOM BECAUSE WE WON'T KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON DOWN HERE. I THINK WE WILL KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IS GOING ON BUT I BELIEVE THAT AT THAT POINT, ALL HUMANITY'S VEXATIONS AND CONCERNS WILL BE LOST BECAUSE WE WILL HAVE PUT ON IMMORTALITY! I BELIEVE WE WILL BE ABLE TO SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THE WORLD, HOWEVER, NOT THROUGH THE DARKENED 'VEIL' OF FLESH BUT 'CLEARLY' THROUGH THE LIGHT OF THE SPIRIT...AND THUS, 'KNOWING,' THAT NO MATTER WHAT IS TRANSPIRING ON THIS EARTH, OUR ALMIGHTY GOD IS TOTALLY IN CHARGE. I AM ALMOST 'BURSTING' WITH THE THOUGHTS OF THE EXTENT OF MY REWARD BECAUSE 'THE WORD' PROMISES THAT NO MATTER WHAT OUR EXPERIENCES ARE DOWN HERE, WHEN WE GET TO HEAVEN, WE WILL FEEL THAT EVERYTHING WE WENT THROUGH...WAS MORE THAN WORTH IT! IT'S GOOD TO KNOW WHERE WE'RE GOING, JUDE...IT'S GOOD TO KNOW! AN AWESOME PIECE OF WORK. AND I THANK GOD THAT WHEN I WENT TO AMBER MOONSTONE'S DEN, SHE MENTIONED THAT THIS WORK HAS INSPIRED HER. IT IS THAT KIND OF WORK...IT MAKES ONE THINK OF...THE 'BRIGHTER DAYS'...AHEAD. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...
Where we go after death is as much obscure as where we came from when we were born. We came from the dark and vanish into the dark again but as you said your answer comes when the time is right. Noble thoughts penned here.
Your last stanza encapsulates the whole thing Jude. We can think whatever we want about the presence or the absence of an afterlife, and what form it takes. But from there it's a matter of faith because we never will absolutely know until we gwt there.
Love the lightness of tone and touch in this one, Kartero, and the gauziness of effect. Searching questions... open-ended answers. Yes, it's so strange that we can give so little answer in concrete terms to what we THINK lies ahead, and yet it's a state of bliss to which we so ascribe and, in the main, yearn for. Whatever it may be, I believe it's a state of real corporeal existance and experience but one which is also acutely aware of and caught up in the presence of God. And that we access it through grace. Hell, to me, would be abject eternal isolation into a black hole of nothingness, but my eschatology is flakey at the best of times! :)) xx
hmmmm, I can't imagine that song or dance will ever die, I feel the presence of loved ones I have lost, a brother at age 21 and so many more...I really can feel them, their 'free spirits' maybe?
Hey Jude,
Pretty heavy questions for a Monday morning...I was so inspired by this poem, I wrote a response on my page. Hope you like it, as much as I liked this poem of yours. You raise questions that everyone our age seems to be asking. My feeling is that the afterlife is more wonderful and energetic than this life...After all one can dream right? lol
To another thought provoking poem as always you make your readers stand up and pay attention!
Peace, light and love,
Amber
a fine foray into the ineffable here, jude... the grand ellipsis... the ethereal enigma... as usual, in unusual ways, and as Jerry says, a fine light touch, you tease us out of thought... maybe we whoosh away into better bodies, fitted for forever with grace and finesse and an evanescent scintillation of evermore being better than the best best we can be... but that's just me. Thank you for teasing me out of thought, yet again. Be well.
Peace always,
Roger
So well-constructed, Jude, is this questionnaire on the beyond. I really like your subtle touch when you wrote your poems, whether it is about questions such as this or other venues where most poets,myself included, seem to want to carry a big stick. You get your point across gently.
