~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
if a man refuses to look
            into the ugly depths of his self,
             he will never see the true reflection
                        of his inner form
                               and perhaps some beauty
                      will come out of his doing so
                          or perhaps nothing will take shape
          and the gods will laugh deep laughs amid sighs
      perhaps he can lead the way
                   out of the paper bag he has built
               or find a way to assemble an island
                                where appearance is just a dream
                stumbling within ripples
     of the rubbish he has have created
                wandering into the greenery
       where the tree of life slants upwards and around
Could be the only way to find the beauty is to mine the ugliness and refine it into beauty? If so what ptovides the het?
.. so many fascinating facets to this, Kartero; love the "hysteria" we've produced and the CO2 dilemma: too much versus too little (as in having to breathe into a paper bag to calm us!) And if we COULD find a way to convert all our refuse into the refreshing perception of tropical island perfection where the Tree of Life is a shady, coconut-milk-and-honey-producing palm, that would be just great. No man is an island, in that we are all accountable for the global predicament we find ourselves in, but when it comes to a solution, indeed we must start by cleaning up from within. The commonality of the direction in which we're headed is governed by the multiple singularity of the personal journey of introspection... I must remember to stay off the cider before I come in here!!! Eve's amber nectar loosens my tongue even more! :)) xx
To see light one must look one's own darkness in the face. Well penned Jude.
Your first four stanzas made me think of (besides me) Archie Bunker.
It is amazing how tall the walls of a paper bag can be. Patrick
can not be seen)...dreams from
your poem to awaken and see!!!
such profundities pour forth from your pen, jude... you make us want to 'see' deeper... the philosophical equivalent of the old familiar line "you make me want to be a better man"...
Thought provoking passages that make one stop and think! Your words are, as usual, deep in meaning, which is wonderful activity for the grey matter.
i think man looking into his inner ugly is more common than uncommon (title reference), but agree it is a necessary step in clearing ones murk - some want it out in the open, others do it silently ;) - cheers to the upwards greenery!
Hey Jude,
It's so refreshing to see that you ended this poem with a ray of hope. Sometimes reflective moments make us feel sad and lost, but in reality, when you are deeply reflecting that means your recognize that you are changing, and change is inevitable! We are connected with our two poems today, amazing how the Universe works, isn't it. After I read your poem, I went, what? did he read my mind? lol
anyway, great work, so change and Adaptation is always a good thing...
Embrace every moment of every day of your life with light, peace and love,
Amber
