~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
           you are the one
     who got away
   hidden in a postcard’s aged scent,
           a moment of life
    slipped through the orchestral ozone,
           into a choreographed cabaret
    of dancing showgirls
             and tinted spotlights
          then the great circuit breaker
         snapped a disruptive blow to the show
    now you’re concealed
buried in sounds
  and sights of city lights
  strange how you were born
           above dying shadows
         gingerly strolling through life
    your beauty alluring and alive
    you were the one
whose gentle smile
beamed onto a garden pic above a mirror
   casting its own special glow
              the vision I endure
   moves through faded books of poems
          breathing within pastel drawings
   left behind before the beyond came forward
      I water your flowering plant
             seems to be growing forever
 but the dreams of what may have been
             have all wilted and blown away
What is so striking about this poem is the paradoxical nature of love's tender touch and sharpness of edge, even though the blade to persuade or cut is left in your scabbard. Well done.
I loved the feel of this very much. It took me inside every line and led me through corridors of color and life in a unique way...
You've expressed this beautifully jude. The detail and connections that intertwine objects and scenes with a fading reality. Very cool.
If you hadn't posted this at the time that you did I might have thougt it to be an ode to Whitney Houston, though as I read it again, it certainly could be interpreted in other ways. Memories of lost loves, broken wings and those who have risen up and away from this place all seem to collect in the same chamber of our heart. I breathed a big sigh as I finished reading this as it is so heavily laden with sadness, dusted by the sands of time and colored by wisperings of regret. Very beautiful writing, Jude.
Take care,
Sherry
Love Patrick's "anachronism" idea which articulates wonderfully the enduring state of that which is slowly developed "right before the eyes" as opposed to the "quick fix" sleights of hand of our unfathomable, intangible modernity. How this quietly ruffles the watery surface of my own soul right now with its notion of what has been "left behind before the beyond came forward" (aligning with my "Living before me and after me the life I’ve never met") How endlessly captivating and fascinating this pursuit of our otherness is! And this is also a fabulous Rorschach companion to your alternative "getting away" in dream scene (ff)... vapors. The emotional colours and textures are similar and yet there is an enduring vibrancy of character that sets the stage and city alive in this one. And yes, that flowering plant will continue to grow seemingly forever as long as the roots remain undisturbed: providing fresh blooms of beauty and leaves of much-needed nutrition and breathing in season. This seeps an undivided loyalty and rapt attention to detail born of a great affection, Kartero; aching and beautiful. xx
Sepia. Now that's something you don't really see much any more. An anachronism I suppose like Kodak film and ammonia blueprints and now the incandescent light bulb. Replaced by the digital magic of the devil's soul. Patrick
Time is like the sepia, faded and dim. Like a distant star, she fades in time, too. Alluring and beautiful poetry.
This poem has the feel of the 30's where sepia was prevalent, you paint a sepia painting in our minds as we read each detail you pen.
I personally feel that it's another example of letting something/someone get away because of circumstances beyond our control..regrets, there's been a few but he did it his way!!!!! Frankie knew how to belt out the truth didn't he...So Jude, do it your way, have it your way, but please don't forget to keep your eyes open and your heart focused. Live for each moment that you have a breath, and don't have any regrets...That's what I am doing. Love this "colorful" poem. So many other thoughts but best to stop now...lol
I, of course could go on and on.......
Much peace, light, and love,
Amber
There is so much good writing here, Jude that it boggles the mind. You are Authors Den's Poet Laurette. There is no question or argument of that. To pick a line, a favorite line in this, and many other of your poems is just not possible. New York City seethes throughout these words, with all it bright lights, broken dreams and tragedy tenfold. Fantastic!
