~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
            the wound runs deep
          passing through his heart
like a subway train
                     barreling under avenues of dark
          shadowy emotions
            he observes countless faces
        through indifferent windows of iron caterpillars
                 wiggling across the night mind
his wound is really deep
inseparable
      from his neurotic objective
     his roots spread out across the night
 through the volatile soil of distrust
                    his affect is implanted
  in fanatically hostile beliefs
      envisioning everyone
  as corrupted souls
    strolling through concrete curtains
        his mind effortlessly pillages
the stage he has yet to play upon
                      but has decided to totally destroy
Your verses remind me of certain characters I have encountered when watching episodes of "Criminal Minds." Very effective, Jude. Love and peace,
This version nails it, Kartero. That voracious dark caterpillar knawing away at his insides and barreling him along in the steely, isolated compartments of his, perhaps, "unhinged" mind. Great capture that sends shudders through the soul as we consider him "waiting for his moment" of death or glory and of how we may consider ourselves always "righteous" in our own minds. There is never effect without a cause - a sense of wounding is usually prima facie. I like the cold objective sense of distance you set up here. xx
Imagery is fabulous, and as the metaphorical phrases are rich and pithy. A psycho-biological (neologism?) description of a disturbed mind, lost in choosing the correct path.
I cannot look away...vivid and compelling...how'dja get such penetrating x-ray vision, jude?... some people's roots run deep in *the volatile soil of distrust* ... and they bear such bitter fruit...
Be well and keep the peace...
An "eating machine", whom eat's voraciously and shed's its skin four or five times as its body grows, and eventually pupate into an adult form.
i've often dreamt of trains and riding them - I always wondered who all those people were, many times finding myself in one of these concrete underground dark locations....this poem here is a great discription of it, you seem to tap these subconscious realms effortlessly...
Hey Jude,
This is quite dark for you these days. I have so enjoyed your poetry as of late, but this one, it blew me away. We all have our innner darkness, our wicked thoughts that surface at times. We cannot let the darkness triumph. It is within that darkness we find our weakness and strive to strengthen all that has surfaced. Never forget any of it, but always making the lightness prevail. I love the metafors that you used in this one
Self-sabotage, self-destruction is something I know well of. It's really about oneself not feeling worthy enough for what we have acheived so we sabotage it to make us feel like we were right..It's a weird vicious cycle...To live in lightness is to stop all of that, to love oneself and accept oneself for who they are and what they have done.
Blessings to you dear Jude,
Peace, light and love,
Amber
I am not a big fan of dark, moody poetry but with that said, this is very well written and the topic well addressed, Jude.
Take care,
