~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                             I am working in an antique variety store
                 dusting, rearranging,
interacting with an occasional customer
        at the register an old man is standing,
    diligently watching me network his wares
      as I walk across creaking wooden floors,
           I gesture to a woman to follow me.
       there is something I want her to see,
              something she might be interested in
                                    the sun is setting,
a powerful glare penetrates the storefront window
               passing within the curios and artifacts
                     dust dances within sunbeams
                   fashioning a snow globe effect
              we approach a hickory showcase
        where there is an assortment of glass bottles
                                    and silver urns
      she inquires, “what’s that liquid in those bottles
                            and what’s in those urns”?
            “well, the urns contain stardust collected
                        before I began to work here
and the bottles store dream juice, a very special blend,
              one sip and all your dreams will be lucid
you can control and know what’s within every dream
                  it’s happening to me right now -
                       one more thing, the bottles
                     on the top rack are fermenting
                                  and not for sale”
                  “what’s the formula”? she inquires
           “what ingredients are inside those things”?
                  the old man smiles and responds,
                “synaptic molecules of your being -
            oh yes, the bottles above are fermenting
         and not for distribution or consumption”
            she looks at me, then smiles and waves
                                   to the old man
                                         ka-ching
they were called head shops but for the life of me, i recall their most potent stuff was incense ... then again, most of the people i knew doing lsd or angel dust didn't have the capacity to dream since they were already living a nightmare ... few encompassed the focus or ability to see into their dreams ... anyway, thanx for the recall ...
Sounds like a shop I visited in the late 60's or early 70's...memory escapes...but the "dream juice" was ISD and the "stardust" was "angel-dust."
LOL!! Thought we were due another "snowglobe" write about now, and what more tempting to a woman than that one thing she's told she just can't have?! That old man's reverse psychology is a money-spinner for certain sure, Kartero. Again, makes me think of Dickens: Kit and Nell in the Old Curiosity Shop (which was Nell's Grandfather's), crossed with Bruckheimer's Peter Pan and Tootles: marbles/bottles of happy thoughts to make one fly! What a great construct that would make - each of us walking around as our synaptic self in a world shaped by our most habitual thinking: Spielberg should get on to it - if Bruckheimer hadn't already got there first! :)) Wonderfully visual, rich in emotional context and warm atmosphere. And you, the lucid dreamer, already knows how this story ends...
My dreams have been very vivid lately, I wonder how many bottles of dream juice I must have drunk in a previous life. A nice setting for this archetypal revelation/fermentation.
A wonderful allegory with the antique shop being your old body and dreams fermenting in your brain. On the other hand, if I take dream juice before I go to bed, I usually get nightmares. It's fun when I can ride the them at night.
brought that about for me, being there for the
An enchanting story...We've all seen the dust in a sunny room, but I never would have thought of calling it a snow globe effect....
I think you and the old man are on the same wave length...ka-ching!
Hey Jude,
We are both writing about our dreams...wow..yours brings me to a place in time where things are magical and old fashion. I would love to try some of that dream juice, Perhaps my dreams would be more ignited and vivid than they are now. Let's try it together, that could be quite a trip...
Love your descriptive stanzas, I felt as if I was standing in that shop looking at your dusty snow globe...love it..
Much peace, light, and love,
Amber
