his wit is charming as well as alluring

yet its deceptive nature doesn’t fool me

nor do I think he cares a bit

though I know his quiet smile

is inflated with the exuberance of a first place sprinter

it is also fused with the frustration of a fallen god

he dreams of foreign places and unfamiliar faces

     while struggling to alter

      the scenery of familiar surroundings

  he chases fireflies while recreating

the darkness they need to subsist in

   and endeavors to control

the fluency of their flickering presence

     his relationships

   are interfused with misty shadows,

       nude curvatures of eyeless beings

  and remarkably intelligent invisibles

he sleeps with both eyes open

         watching me watching him

gazing into the depths of his remarkable creations

and yes, he doesn’t care a bit

yet still inquires if he snores

I find your writing full of intricate complexities, which baffle and fascinate me. There are clauses that just capture, regardless of their intent or reception. In this one, that segment for me is: "...remarkably intellegent invisibles." I really like the effect of those words. I find your poetry abstractionalizingly captivating, unobtanium, puzzlicious. ~~ Diana

Love the way you capture a persons soul and then share it with the world.

this is an interesting God Poem Jude
for me anyway-that's where my visuals went anyway:

"he sleeps with both eyes open
watching me watching him
gazing into the depths of his remarkable creations"

"misty shadows, nude curvatures & remarkably intelligent invisibles"
yeah a totally cool God Poem!!

...Elements of both the observer and the observed here; the explorer as well as the pychological terrain of his/her analysis. Reminds me of my love of keeping caterpillars in jam jars when I was young to watch for their moment of transition and metamorphosis. I can relate wholeheartedly to both the self-dissection and the knowing fascination of learning to understand the Everyman's whole story. And I, too, wonder if I REALLY know what it is to feel and to care, rather than to want to or to merely understand and assent to the theory of doing so. Being seen to be able to be so coolly reasoned is often taken for heartlessness when, in fact, it is quite the opposite. Sometimes we are so challenged by the vast unchartered seas of emotion within us that we have to seek to keep them totally where we can see them, under the microscope - and firmly under lock and key! Hence the need for control. I really like where this write takes my mind, Kartero. I hadn't foreknown how I was going to respond to this poem and I like that. And my response has taken me by surprise which I like even better! :)) Love Sage's comments about sawing the legs off the bed to cure snoring... I believe it probably does work as hubby suffers a very rare REM disorder which renders him violent in his sleep; however, he's very much better the closer to the ground he is, funnily enough! Just goes to endorse the idea that we all have a basic need to feel safe, even if it is subliminal. xx

Remarkably intellegent visibles of fireflies, interfused
misty shadows, a charming wit of that man who asks if
he snores. Wonderful father's presence you have reflected

Maybe it's because of father's day, but this feeling of two beings that know each other so well, as if one was looking and recognizing an image in the mirror, both strange and familiar, gives me the impression of a father image. It doesn't matter whether it's an existing father or an introjected one, that fallen god is a part of one's psyche.

So deeply moving in it's depth of perception. Sounds like the inner man is struggling with his mortality and integrity. People all have a dark side, it's what they choose to do with that dark side that makes a human being happy or not. Spiritually, there is so much more to read into this poem. Falling from grace, unfulfilled relationships, beauty within hardly seen, time passes by so quickly, that is why one should just live and enjoy what is coming their way.

Wow, I guess you got me going here, that is what you do best!

Peace, light and love,
Amber

Quite a characterization Jude. Someone who apparently doesn't know or value himself. Well penned as always.

To sleep with both eyes open, like a soldier who fears for his own death. One who must be forever watchful.

Powerful poem of fear and what you must watch for.

Interesting poem, very thought provoking. I liked it VERY much

No matter how much some people have to offer, they still seem to question their worth and worry about how they are perceived. I suspect that there is a bit of insecurity in each of us and particularly in those who have huge egos. I read this three times and laughed each time when I got to the last two lines. Enjoyed, Jude.
Take care,

Sage is a wonder, is she not? I should be so observant and articulate. It was the "sleeps with both eyes open / watching me watching him" that took me into the poems inner meaning. Fantastic write.

Paul Bunyan's commentators have thought of him as an inauthentic fakelore character. Monikered in lumber camps and poetry dens with axes to grind. Woot-Woot sawing the legs off the bed prevents snoring. Tall tale medicine show at the center for puppetry arts-->"gazing into the depths of his remarkable creations"
