~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The acrid breeze slowly spools across city stalagmites
Effortlessly hugging their skeletal steel and scraggy stone
Stroking contorted trees
Are archetypal clouds encircling the pathos of our being
Merging with a ménage of blessed encounters and hidden evils
Traversing our dreams and daily wanderings:
Yet, we must get-away
Have fun, frolic up and down the declining dunes and growing shores -
Sometimes people, when on holiday
Have an epiphany, and grasp how f***ed up we all really are
Dumbfounded by surging shadows and unpredictable tides
We are becoming:
Migrants all, all on a collective vacation
Where darkness invades each and every eye, so we all can yet see
Have you been listening to the Pina Colada song again??
"Sometimes people, when on holiday
Have an epiphany, and grasp how fucked up we all really are"
THAT says it all!!!
There is a lot to take away from this as is noted. We all want to escape any storm. Hope you had a nice t-giving. ~ Morgan
jude, the challenges to our perceptions are barrier like, yet we never seem to cease the honest pursuit of reality's basis - does such an arena of human understanding even actually exist? - circumstances play to convince us we are at least partially in control, me thinks not - the truth is more likely we only con volute evidential events to fool ourselves - this is a grand peace to test one's credo, an enjoyable read - I wish you love and peace my dear friend -Jon Michael
Riveting first two lines. Could easily be the fade in to a movie.
"Yet, we must get-away"
Yup! I agree, Robert! In more ways than one, too. Getting out of ourselves, out of our routines, etc. and 'seeing' another reality (off the beaten path) does wonders for the verve and temperament. Hope all is well! Peace ...
A definite read-aloud!! Juxtapositions of sounds are a poet's dream!!
{Sorry if the tense doesn't agree; call it poetic license;)}
Dark, but Truth very definitely has its dark side. Sometimes eclipses the light, but when the two are in balance, you could almost say they compliment each other. Certain beauty to it?
[And yes, it often seems that there is so little light, that the idea that they could be in balance is a joke. But what keeps most of us going is determination to find every last speck of light...make some if we have to!}
Happy Thanksgiving, my friend. . .forget your troubles a while, and
concentrate on how much talent and intelligence and know-how you are blessed with.
Uh, oh. Didn't mean to preach.
Just reminding myself how much I have to be thankful for. Looks like
Ray and I will be spending Thanksgiving at UNC Hospital.
He's having surgery Tuesday. Doesn't belong in a review. Just wanted you to know where the 'sermon' came from.
I have so much to say here, but do not wish to get
winded...
We do not have to conform as the archetypal clouds
or allow it to encircle the pathos of our being...
We are in control of us, no one else can do this for
no-one has the power to...
I have to smile, such a sad epiphany however this has
gone on since the beginning of time... every generation
has felt this way... philosophers and scholars spoke of it...
I must echo Amber here, push away the darkness and bring in the light
It is within our power, as an individual we cannot change the world
but we can start with ourselves and let our light shine and spread to
those all around us... this is the start... after all light is contagious :)
Be in the now of your life, your choice let all the light come into you..
Wonderful write as they always are jude
Kewl description of skyscrapers. Bloody poignant about the mess of the human race. These are darkening days as the unilateral storm gathers.
Bravo, Jude! Like traveling the tides and currents of a never-ending ocean of thought, life, loss and sorrow. Leaves me exhausted and apathetic, afraid of what comes next..
My dear Jude,
There is so much to say about this poem. My first gut reaction is the fact that when we have time to think on our hands, reality sets in. We do begin to see with new eyes, sometimes we realize that our life just isn't what we thought it was. We got lost in the forest of our dreams, and the reality is much harder to face than living in eutopia. Everyone has their own darkness, over coming that darkness and living in lightness is the key to health and joy. Choose lightness push away the darkness. We only have one life to live at a time, let's all try to live our life as best as we can with as much love and light as we possibly can. Forget about what was, live in what is, right now...time is moving so fast, don't miss out on a chance to be happy!
Of course I just have to go on and on, but you get my point I am sure.
Amazing work as always, I love reading your words, they inspire me.
Peace, light and love,
Amber
We live in both strange and difficult times and the tides are just begining to turn. It is hard to predict which way the human spirit will go; will we turn inward or reach outward? Either way, it is going to be a wild ride, to be sure.
Take care, Jude, and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
A real shape-shifter of a write, blending mood with environment in a post-trauma land-and-dreamscape wonderfully well. Like any surreal altered sorrounding of a formely well-known domain, we will be amazed at the good and evil to come out of it on all levels, material and spiritual. But even to get away, as you pinpoint, can offer no relief as the diminishing islands of refuge concentrate the mind even more on all that has us cornered and heightens our awareness. The sudden change of register to talk about the fun and frolics of getting away on holiday is like the red wheelbarrow effect in this otherwise sombre-toned piece; I wonder if an incongruous billboard ad for some exotic holiday destination was peculiarly draped off some decomposing Bronx building somewhere which made you think how crazy life is? Yet fun and frolics remain... strangely, my Studland peninsula shorelines are accrueing dunes at a triffid-pace these days as seaweeds washed ashore by tempestuous storms encourage the resiliant marram grasses to take hold in the new build ups of sand and sediment: a strangely evolving landscape. Forget oil; water is what we will fight over in the end... Keep tripping, Kartero. xx
I like the idea of, “…declining dunes and growing shores.” Sometimes, all it takes is for me to close my eyes to go migrating to other places and times. The imagery is clear.
Can't argue very much with the tenor and logic of this fine-tuned and craftily written poem, Jude. The "darkness" of illogical though processes is about to be written, not by poets, but by those who do not have everyone happiness and freedom within their hearts.
