~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
one day, a hearse
loaded with inannimate flesh and bones
will barrel past my window
expelling fumes of discarded lifetimes
along with its bathwater of tortured spirits
maybe it contents will be left
by the curb
so the departed sift through the remains
after all, in a fickle world,
does it really matter
where things are discarded or relocated
or who really evaluates their value?
skeletons stare with wordless eyes
as earthly splatter realigns with the heavens
icy dreams blanket the horizon
nerves and veins dematerialize
I will listen for any murmur of reason
to speak from graves
hopefully I’ll be informed
how to reallocate to more vibrant surroundings
What is discarded from one, is treasure to another so it really does matter where it has been placed. Good write.
I think it does matter where things are discarded. What ever happens in life, it's good to try to hold onto tangibles....M
The earth shall give up their dead and those who have been deemed worthy and good shall inherit their place in a new Eden and those who have ignored the truth and have filled their hearts with evil shall perish with their ashes blown to nothingness. Excellent write.
Love the way you wound this up, Jude. All is bleakness and despair, then ZAP! Ghost of a chance, I am OUTta here!! Somehow makes you feel -- or anyway, me -- that you are bound to escape. Grinnin' & callin' back "Duuuuuuuude, don' think about catchin' up t'me.
Or am I cheering myself with fantasy? Future you paint so real that I, being an ostrich, can't bury my head fast enough?
Some'ere 'tween, I speck.
Thank you for always providing food for thought. Being y o u !!
own conclusions and own thoughts, but the great
mystery to the unanswered questions comes to us
when we journey forward :)
those opening three lines, Jude,
are tremendous and the rest of the poem
is just as good for it never flags;
"...I will listen for any murmur of reason..."
speaks to me with force and "...hopefully
I'll be informed..."
it's good to see you back, i missed your poetry
jude,the journey in the back of a four by eight is brief, and alas, not even ceremonial. the ride at the hands of the gang of six more brief yet. it's a fair bet we'll not utter a single complaint. and none of the earthly crowd will pass final judgement, opinions, certainly. i like the last stanza and the perspective from which it is conceived. i wish you love and peace my dear friend. jon michael
Shakespeare said it well: Cowards die many deaths, the valiant but one, and some contend we live many lives, yet we Christians contend but one... tis best to make it run!! to follow Andrew Marvell... the day was meant for seizing... but too many just seize up and let themselves be sized up for their coffins... nice to see you posting again, Jude.
Hollow eyes. Yes, I wrote poem with a similar theme you might enjoy called Humanimals. Expressions of death well expressed. Some just don't know they are since no one told them yet.
1 Thessalonians 4:15-17
King James Version (KJV)
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Just a quote for you!
Welcome back, I have missed you so much.
Peace, light and love,
It's good to read you again after absence. I hope all is well. Most of the world is wishing for the Eden you express. It would be wonderful if they're right. Wouldn't it?
There is so much apathy these days that dead of alive, most of us are only remains of who we once were and where we once lived. Hopefully, there will be bits and pieces to be sifted from the decay so that we can start anew and create a better world. There is a better plane, our spiritual plane, where we can still find peace and sanctuary. I hope that those of us who know where to find that place will be able to enlighten the rest. Powerful and dark, this gloomy poem strikes a strong note. Nice work, Jude.
Take care,
Sherry
Hi Jude,
I think that there are two lines of thought on the great happening.
There are those who prepare for it all their life.
And those who are prepared to take what comes
Would it be a shame if all that effort were for nothing?
Best regards,
Mor.
An eye-opener this a.m., Jude, for sure. This goes right along with the poem I will post tomorrow. The contents of that hearse you speak of, I believe, unloads the so-called spiritual, or soul, on its daily trek to find a final resting place for the wayward remains it carries.
