... we hear beyond the sounds they make AND the sounds they wake; reminds me of that Evanescence song I used in Log a while back. We can all listen but perhaps we each choose what we hear and act on it accordingly. I like the quiet assurance of this piece - that the 'waking' is in direct response to the quality of the listening. xx
Hey Jude,
I am so glad that I waited to respond to this posting. It has evolved into a very inspiring and reflective poem.
Listening is often difficult for most poets, we always have so much to say. I find myself listening to strangers and being very illuminated at best.
I love the last stanza, it is by far the most telling and most introspective part of this poem.
I am listening.....
I listen. It has come about through years of speaking. I've found that if I listen I need not speak as much, and my words are tempered with listing wisdom.
Sometimes, it is much easier to speak than it is to listen because listening may force us to change our point of view, grow or need to become more responsible. It is, in fact, the diverse nature of communication with others that actually leads us to enlightenment and also to introspection. Profound offering, Jude.
Take care,
Sherry
If you tend to believe romantic, passionate, masculine poetry is a thing of past eras, read "She Intrigues Me," and be swept away in the beautiful craft of a contemporary poet of love.
Each person is but a grain of sand resting beside the sea. This thought sets the tone for Jill Eisnaugle’s latest poetry collection, Beside Still Waters.
