~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
he surveys the ice-covered lake
ambling along the riverbank
sopping with frozen ferns
and fragmented branches
extending into the broken ice
his feet are cold and damp
swamped by unfrozen rainwater
hours of thoughtless vapors
rise along with the frozen fog engulfing him
he dwells on the opaque surface of hidden designs
and unseen perils hidden
within the icy sky of his frosty heart
that still conjures up nomadic dreams
and rootless journeys of another lifetime
he disappears above the surface mist
over and over again
a ghost desperately trying to come about
and speak with the haunted breeze surrounding him
suprisingly he captures the resilience
to converse with the approaching winds of spring
requesting to melt into the horizon he belonged to
before flowering into the visions he once nurtured
Ah... nice ending! Makes me think The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, where the curse of winter is finally ended and spring comes at last. Seems like another in the 'provision' and 'falling up' category. BTW, Ron's comment on 'blue slumber' about the memory being as holographic patterns having an effect on the neurons so as to cause synaptic activity strikes a chord with me; and particularly so in these kinds of writes of yours. It's like the changing hologram of memory which creates these 'dream sequences' is permanently looking for its contextual fit in terms of firing up the synapses - am I making sense here? xx
Quite the friendly ghost. I am intrigued with its frozen spirit, lingering until the thaw. M.True
ghosts, wonder if they have to inhabit something in order to speak, I'm sure it has much to say
The only one that could possibly hear "the drone of a beaver's den" would be a coyote or fox.
And a ghost would also be appropriate, if there is such a thing.
I can relate to this ghost of lake eerie; I sadly feel like one myself, as I wander along frozen lake michigan.
Your words carried me along and melded me with the foggy mist. Like the haunt of the years that have so obviously passed, we wait with anticipation for the memories to reemerge and awaken us, again. Very beautiful with strong images.
Take care,
Sherry
Hauntingly eerie, Jude. Desperation awaiting the birth of life giving spring flowers and honey bees. Love this poem.
