~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
suppose the faux ignition
deep within your eyes finally dissipates
and all the petty visions and thoughts
that ever filtered through your flawed
grid of perceptions and beliefs
irrefutably blows its fuse
and sizzles with surrender and woe
suppose years of complying
with the mistakes you’ve created
finally kicks you in the ass
and you give up on pretending
you have something significant to say
and all the voices and opinions
surrounding you are now denatured
and past their prime
and you’re tired of the flawed feedback
you’re were always accustomed to
suppose you raise your hands high into the air
feeling through the empty web you weaved
extending your feet to run as fast as you can
down a street you’ve never traversed before
searching for the enthusiasm and passion
always eluding your grasp
your fingers now feverishly feeling for hope
your words flirting through diaries of dreams
your eyes opening for the first time
your heart finally tolerant for change
your mind modifying its range
your voice composing fresh idea
suppose you’ve supposed long enough
and it’s time you celebrate being alive
and time to get over dying
It's always time to celebrate being alive - even in the midst of all the dying, I think. Ironically, it's only when death is present that we can appreciate what it means to be truly alive. On the other hand, those who are unwilling to allow their heart to be 'tolerant for change' are already living a form of death. But hell-yeah; those regrets and mistakes sure do bite! :) Expressed in your own signature style and diction as always. xx
Hey Jude
Suppose you start living and forget about dying, swim to safe shore where the brightest light shines of hope and tranquility and the past hurts end and motion of poetry rings true and forever is forever Suppose you do what your soul wants you to do, what do you have to lose? Gain? Only you can propel yourself toward happiness and peace!
I vote for living in the moment!
Peace and love
"suppose you've supposed long enough" loved that line and the whole final stanza!
"He who is not busy living, is busy dying." Bob Dylan. I suppose one can shield oneself from reality for a very long time and then come out into the real world. I would prefer it the other way around, that someone would be out in the real world all their life. Dying will come soon enough… Why fret about it.
Fear is the obstacle that keeps us from achieving our dreams and goals in life. Fear is the embracing of the cloak that keeps us from stepping out of our comfort zone and into the naked world of living life. Darkness is not the proverbial devil that we blame for all of our sorrows and lack of accomplishments, darkness is nothing more than fear and fear is nothing more than an excuse to fail. Provocative offering, Jude.
Take care,
Sherry
My good friend I have been where this poem took us to since October 2011. Everything here is good. It never was before. I still visit my past, but it is with a different eye and outlook. Glad you wrote and posted this.
Robin Ouzman Hislop's poetry is certainly in dialogue with some of the key architects of the 'poetics of indeterminacy' – both the Modernist strands represented by the likes of Beckett and Stein, and the postmodernist strands represented, initially,
