Humankind's most important occupation is the story and the teller. She and he are our only link to past, present and future ... to our humanity. Every act, heroic or cowardly, is performed and documented with such agility. Every myth, rhyme, discovery and aspiration come from and through their wit. Without them, those story makers, our lives would lack the most important of elements, entertainment. Even the most primitive of us spends but a few hours a day hunting and gathering and finding shelter. All the rest is reserved for entertainment, as varied and fanciful as we can create. It is one of the first things children learn to do and one of the last our elders are obliged to leave behind. Long live the story teller.

I DON'T FEEL IT'S THE AGE THAT SUBSTANTIATES ONE AS A STORY TELLER. BECAUSE,EVERYTHING DISAPPEARS FOR THE LISTENERS WHEN THE ATTENTION IS CAPTURED BY THE ARTISTIC AND INTRICATE DETAILS OF A GREAT STORY. I MEAN AUDIO BOOKS ARE APPRECIATED NOT BECAUSE OF THE AGE OF THE STORY TELLER BUT BECAUSE OF THE RICH QUALITY OF THE STORY BEING SPUN AND THE ABILITY OF THE STORYTELLER TO BRING THESE THINGS TO LIFE. THE CONTENTS OF WHICH IS FORMULATED BY THE AMOUNT OF EFFORT THAT HAS BEEN GIVEN UNTO 'NURTURING' THE 'GIFT' OF THE STORY TELLER. A YOUNG PERSON, HAVING HONED HIS GIFT CAN BE AN EXCELLENT STORY TELLER, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME, AN ELDERLY PERSON MUST COME WITH MORE THAN AGE AND AN ENGAGING APPEARANCE TO QUALIFY AS ONE. Love the way you wrote this. Reminds me why I have always enjoyed the company of elders, telling me their stories of times past. Some have been awesome storytellers, others may not be considered a storyteller, but nonetheless I still love to listen. Enjoyed reading.

There aren't as many of those as are used to be. Times are moving too fast. But there's nothing better than to sit around the campfire or at the edge of the fishing pond and listen to an elder tells story is both enlightening and humorous. I wish I could've sat by Samuel Clemens in his elder years and listened to his yarns.

I love the great storytellers who speak so vibrantly that images capture my mind and who's voice becomes a guiding whisper within the technicolor wanderings of my imagination. Loved this piece, Jude.

Your poem reminds me of my grandfather. He used to tell us stories everyday. He had so many stories to tell it was as though the stories were grown within him. Great poem, Jude!

I planned to write a novel about "The Storyteller," but I found my words had all dried up insofar as novels are concerned. This storyteller would have fit into my story quite seamlessly.
