garden's golden meadows

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
the daylight carried
the news of his sister’s passing
on wings of dusk's dreary surprise
his big sis
who carried him through the family mud
and lifted him
above the garden’s golden meadows
launching secreted
shared memories
that lovely young woman
smiling that smile
keeping him busy
beside the pool during summer barbeques
and cross-country vacations
exchanging stories both scary and enchanting
sharing dreams and nightmares
encountered during their nightly divide
it was difficult to breathe without feeling guilty
the rain pounded so hard on the roof
it sounded like heaven punching
its fists into his temples
the fireplace
roared like a lost lioness
its embers cracking
her voice for the final time
a bellow of fading warmth
he cried to sleep with once more
It hurts so much when you lose someone you love. I can feel your pain in this poem. You loved your sister dearly. The poem captured your relationship and her essence. Well done! Be strong. Hug!
Hey Jude,
Such a tender account of the passing of such a warm and special person in one's life. Very poignant indeed.
One can feel the loss of such a special relationship and empathize with the person left behind to mourn.
You always bring us such amazingly written poetry!
Much peace, light and angel love,
Amber
So often it is presumed the author is always writing of him/herself. Some poems are created from empathy for other. If this is that, then it is with cosmic connection to bretheren for you to feel the pinpoint of this pain. Deep-reaching piece of writing. ~~ Diana
Indeed it is so. Your empathy is spot on and I love how you accentuate our sensitivity to the wider world and its import at such a time in lines 19-25. This sense of distress and loss could also be appropriated to any fading male/female kindred relationship - as implied by the ambiguity (intended or otherwise) of your final line. Reminds me of Pink Floyd's lyrics in High Hopes - a song I want played at my funeral, as it happens: the days when 'the grass was greener, the light was brighter, with friends surrounded, the nights of wonder... the taste was sweeter', etc. Thanks for this, Bro. xx
A bittersweet rite of passage and a kindred reminiscence and appreciation that life here on this plane is temporary, a very thoughtful tribute to a sister who functioned in the capacity of an emotional provider perhaps as well as a spiritual guide and financial supporter. This is deep felt, heartwarming, and heartbreaking.
