special

that term
“special”
is so special
it can make me ill

unless it signifies
and uncommon will
to be oddly
different

and that special
seems not so “special”

but it does redefine
the dissimilarity

of faking
being unique

I was a little twisted around in this one. Immediately thought of food. Maybe the scallops for 10.99$ with a side salad. Oh but to have something special, something that makes you happy, perhaps unique, yes that would be special.

Makes me think of the Church Lady on Sat Night Live.
Loved it.
I've heard it so much from people. "how special of you." "he's a special child." "what a special thought."
Well done.

Your definition of 'special' highlights exactly how it has become thrown out and trodden underfoot as a term. I find it derogative these days - a lazy way of defining that which has value only in its inability to be referred to in any other way... the 'wooden spoon prize', in other words. 'Oddly different' is much more to my liking - but what would you expect from someone who prefers just plain 'peculiar'... now there's a term that means 'special' if ever there was one... :) Uniqueness is a fact; it's just our perception doesn't necessarily clock it unless it makes a personal impact. Get well soon, oh one who has more than their belly-full of 'special' :) xx

We are all special!!...because each one of us is a unique individual. There are good qualities that we possess within ourselves that some others don't see, but we all believe in ourselves that these goodness are there within us.

"Special" can also be defined by what we see in others, perhaps someone whom we like best of his/her inner quality. It's something about the person we feel is being "so special" to us.

Your poetry has always been special and I've missed it through the years.
While I don't write anymore I still enjoy a good read. I gave up writing for photography and I enjoy it as well. It's Special. lol

This make me think of "Church Lady" on SNL. I do enjoy your "take" on words and their usage. You're "deep", my man!

Love ya!

Special, I humorously think of the short bus...
What is special? Is it unique, do we have a
quality no one else has that sets us apart from
the rest? Perhaps, but only to that one "special"
person...

You inspire me with your deep thoughts and how you
grab a subject and make us think Jude...

Love and Light,
Lily

When the term is used to mask sympathy or pity:

special, seems not so "special"

after all. Bless you, I enjoyed reading your poem.

Good poem. Remember that show Alias Smith and Jones? Remember The Midnight Special, Creedence Clearwater Revival? You can tell a fake from the authentic "Special"...Let the Midnight Special Shine the Everlovin light on me.

I get it, I think. Let's just dream and not wake up. Very nice poem. Respect.
