~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
keep an eye on the ball
be ready for a blast
a long one
from home plate
to the cobblestone streets of the past
reaching out with both arms
extended across green grass
bouncing off a rock into a dirt path
ricocheting off my ass
now with those dam physic salvos
of wicked souls and virtual doll heads
really getting on my nerves
but they can’t kill the clock
so I’ll tolerate practicing off the field
watching and listening to cute little astral tales
wagging back and forth across every little puddle
now, there’s shadow and sunlight toward those outer bushes
they can all share providence
in a giant outhouse
clearing out blocked thoughts
until the process of survival is almost over
digging upward for a glimpse of home
scattered in skeletal sawdust
releasing gases of savagery and fear
reincarnated from eons ago
struggling to expel musty dreams
in case they get stuck between fluctuating lifetimes
perhaps a mother will return
or an enemy friend
or lost brother
or a beautiful sister
or maybe the mistress next door
could be the your wife’s next lover
in this lifetime
you have to send them all away
discard their attendance
while demagnetizing remnants of their presence
banish their acids
by melting then back into their original mold
if they should strike out
even after keeping an eye on the ball
and the diamond miraculously shatters
you will now be able to see life’s subjective form
coalesce then collectively disperse
Very Spielberg and a nice bit of magical realism goin on here. Can't pretend to know exactly what's goin down but perhaps that's the idea: just demagnetise and make with the anti-acids anyway. Reminds me of the ball-game scene from the kids' film, Hook, which was the turning point at which Pan saw his own 'life's subjective form coalesce then collectively disperse' and where his own perspectives became crystal clear, strengthening him for the fight. xx
Hey Jude
Sounds like a lot of soul searching going on here ! It's always good to hit a home run. You can play in my ball field anytime!
There is so much to read into here but overall you have written another Jude masterpiece !
Peace light and love
...it batters up!...when you try to figure out...what's
bothering you and why?...keeping the ball up...at the same
time.
I felt each word of your extraordinary poem.
It really conveys a clear image of what life's baggage
is of your own choice...if any...Yet, having to live
one of...all the things...stress doubts anxiety whatever
else...provided by others.
Couldn't nail the source...so...you put "them all" to the back
of your mind...for so long...All of "them" making you
acclimatized not to listen to yourself...anymore...Till
"they" became intolerable...and finally...you addressed
"them" here...so skillfully.
Now...balanced out and seeing "all the things" having
a knock on effect...on each other...time to take a focus
off "them"...bring it back to yourself.
Again, I think, it comes down to giving yourself all those
things you want from others...never to deprioritize yourself
and...find your "authentic self" and happiness...just to be...
Thank you Jude for sharing your thoughtful poem.
A very creative series of thoughts just by using the ball and the home run in the diamond. I love this!
Cryptic centerfield...
"wicked souls and virtual doll
heads" hits a home run and everybody missed it...the World Series of poetry right here on the Bronx diamond around her finger...footlong hot dog and suds.
Gawd, I wish I knew what you are writing about with references to getting "to first base" and "long balls" and digging out from the dugout. Baseball got your tongue?
