perhaps it’s a homeless man
wearing rainbow clown hair
quickly turning his baseball cap
from side to side
while holding the frame
of a broken umbrella
(minus its fabric)
over his head
uttering profanities
with a smile and a wink
perhaps it’s a child
who smiles
as a thunderstorm approaches
but doesn’t hesitate warning his mother
to seek shelter in the family van
perhaps it’s a poet
writing in the dark by a sole candle
not concerned if the world
will ever know his poems
for he knows a greater audience is reading
perhaps it’s an entourage of actors
inhabiting the theater of a planet
who boast the fortune of having a playwright
who patterns the stage and writes the screenplay
yet allows the actors to improvise much of the dialogue
ppontaneously unfurling the context of the grand finale
perhaps it’s those watching earth from a distance
cohabitating mountains and streams
and traversing sidewalks of modern cities
who come from unseen stars
where truth is abundantly clear
and is beginning to take root and grow
in the gardens of mankind’s illusions
who has the hold on truth?
the incredulous say “not me”

Reviews of "who has the hold on truth? (reconsidered)"
Who has the hold on truth? Quite simply the author of Truth; I'm fully convinced. When you find Him, you can finally grasp the real thing with both hands in full-assurance that there is no other Truth. You've captured palpable vignette's here, Robert. Your last stanza sums it up well, IMO. When we fully understand who we really are... then no ones opinion can ever shake us.
as always, your words inspire, thought provoking read

I loved the imagery you've painted in this wonderfully written piece, Jude ... I think you know me well enough to know "who has the hold on truth" in my eyes ...
Truth of it is they made one for all of us Broadway 1942 called "By Jupiter." In the land of the Amazons the women rule and do battle while the men stay at home, mind the children, and buy new hats. An army of Greek soldiers, led by Theseus and Hercules, arrives in search of the Sacred Girdle of Diana, currently in the hands of reigning Queen Hippolyta.
Girdle is the operative word here. To have to improvise a girdle puts the squeeze on, who has the hold on the truth? Why the Madam, of course. This stanza resonates, I love it because it has a hold on the truth--->

The closest we can probably get to truth is speculation and a viable point of view...Truth is fickle. What we believe as truth in one century is long disproven in the next. Truth is what feels right in our heart and it is not necessary, or even advisable, to attempt to get someone else to agree with us. I really liked this, Jude. One of the unanswered questions of the ages.

Love ya!
