This is dedicated to my ex-wife who knew much more about making love than me. The washing of feet was an element in the young church of the first century.

My Own Private Ritual
© 2003
Dan Johnson

Our love for each other was strong,
Yet we searched for new ways to
Keep that flame going.
Before we went our separate ways
For the day,...I said, leave it to me,
I have seductive secrets in mind
That will be something close to ecstasy.

Dinner was easy we sailed right through,
But then like actors that have lost their place,
The question remained, what's next?

I said get comfortable, I’ll be in the other room.
I took my time, didn’t want to hurry, after all,
This would be a night to remember.

In the changing room a robe is all I wore.
Impatient, she came knocking on the door.
I’ll be there in a moment, relax...hey babe,
Find some music to play, sexy, smooth jazz, would be OK.

There she sat at the edge of the bed,
Wearing that sensuously perfect
shimmering peach negligee,
Invitingly shiny and sexy
Few words were spoken, not much said,
By the expression on her face,
Poor thing must have thought I had rocks in my head.

Then slowly I said, in secretive, romantic tones
There’s an ancient ritual goes back thousands of years,
It goes something like this.

The washing of feet, is a ritual which took place a long time ago,
Tonight, I want to revive that feast,
Not only does it express my undying love for you
It says there isn’t anything I wouldn’t do,
to hold your love.

With each stroke I promised to:
always place you above me,
always love you
be humbled in your presence
always adore you.

She was there at the edge of the bed,
I sat on the floor,
As I gently placed my hand
on her leg,
holding it high like a precious find,
it’s treasure, greater than silver, gold or
fine wine,

I caressed her leg, then seductively kissed her knee.
Loving her sensious thigh...so tenderly
She shivered and quietly said,
Do Not Stop.

My hand slipped lower, and held her foot high
Her toes so perfect, pointed to the sky.
A warm, wet cloth, buried deeply with sweet fragrances,
So soft to the touch,
Slowly rubbing, loving each curve of her ankle,
Never have we felt this kind of rush.

I dipped one foot in the small tub of warm, sexy water
gently washed her foot and watched as droplets
of water fell with gentle stroke,
each drop making a wider circle with
ever widening silhouettes of
Two hearts and souls that became one.

Heel and toe, ever so slowly, back and forth,
Gently rubbing did I go.

I glanced up as she glanced down
The smile on her face was as bright as a heavenly crown.
When we were done, and I must say it took quite a while
She looked at me with this ever knowing smile, asking
What did I do to deserve this luxurious treat?
I replied, simply; you are the beginning and the end
Of all that I need…you my love,
Make my life complete.

Then we made love until dawns first light.

A classy offering of love and what it implies for those involved in the particular "experience" to be shared. Thank you, Dan. Love and peace to you,

Too bad more men don't practice this wonderful ritual! Love this poem. Can't imagine why she'd be an EX with such a romantic man to love. This was a joy to read.

Epiphany by Gary Stephens

“We’re going to use nine megaton warheads in space and we’re not sure they’re large enough to be effective. Why would you even consider using kiloton-range surface-to-air warheads as back-up?” The answer was succinct. “Because they’re all we have.”
