99 Years, Plus Life
© 2009
Dan Johnson

You slipped away
Out the back door
You never meant to stay
Down the street
Moved your slipping’ feet
Right out of my life

You started slipping away
That night at the Boogie Woogie joint,
In the corner talking to Big Jim
Kinky Ken and ten other men.
You slipped away that night
I knew then,
You never meant to stay.

Those two weeks I was in Tulsa
I just knew it was too much to ask
You not to be so impulsive.
By the time I got home,
Place was empty, which meant,
You were on the roam
You finally slipped away for good.

Damned old judge said, “99 years plus life,
You dirty scoundrel, you killed my wife!”

Dan - loved the irony at the end:

Damned old judge said, “99 years plus life,
You dirty scoundrel, you killed my wife!”

Life on the dark side... you write of it well. Now come on into the sunshine, Boy, you're all messed up, hoping that "wife" would be more true to you. Now, cool off and tell me more........... - Bill

One of your best Dan. This poem speaks volumes, at least as it relates to my life. Good job buddy.
