War, For Freedom

Ask The War Beast,
He'll tell you ...
If you happen to live to see another day,
He must always be fed and entertained -
Bloody blades of grass and daises,
We swallow ...
Falls rain on rage,
The choking rage of war!

Sheep to their slaughter,
Enslaves the body and mind of man,
Opens unnatural paths to shadows of fear,
And scatters doubts to dark new seasons ...
Seasons of grief cascading like contaminated rivers
Down dim seasons of much contempt
Where men close doors
To the best parts of their souls ...
Pretending to fathom arcane pages
Of the unexplainable ...

Brave, brave, brave
Young flag bearers were many;
With baby faces they fell ...
And far too many of our boys
Wore burial clothe to bed -
They had only abnormal blankets
Of grit and of damp sticky sand,
To keep them from getting too cold.

Drummer boys boldly beat the advance,
Dark in life's war-stained valley of glory,
A grim valley of death and unspeakable truths,
Where pain marks men's fierce and final reverie.
Wild, catlike eyes darting everywhere,
Unimaginable was Glory!
Glory! Glory! Glory!

Glory as told by historians,
Is when triumph and defeat
Turn into blood brothers -
With bullets and razor-like sabers
To mix their blood,
They' will be sharing the same ultimate bed ...
As death clings to bloodthirsty sand pillars.

Vanquished was the blazing sky,
Saddened were the stirring waves,
Shallow and endless were the romp'd graves,
And all we had was each other,
Each other as new brothers;
Brothers in victory as in defeat,
Brothers and sisters in death and life ...
Brothers in the company of a forgetful world -
A world which closed its eyes and ignored
The devastating price we paid
On the shores of the briny sea.

New and soon to be departed family ...
Brothers and sisters we were disrepair ...
Through invaded costumes, bullets danced ...
Preaching the reality of flesh of souls of men ...
These pitiful red-bitten uniforms were well worn,
And there hangs, Smells not easily forgotten ...
Never forgotten or forgiven by Brother Death!
Calls Reality! Near the fort on the briny sea.

Drunk were the surgeons,
Drunk on laudanum and death ...
Vanquished were red-white-blue dreams,
Erased in war's screaming tents.
Temples possessing strength were men,
Awakened and faded beyond virtuosity,
As their souls cry out ...
No More!

Yes, for freedom, flies many flags
High upon gory poles,
They wave proudly for you and I ...
But, ask almost any soldier,
And he'll tell you,
He must think more than hard ...
To recall ... what he's fighting for ...

But, Honor has always held his post;
And enjoyed the thrill of the fight.
He spread his fragile wings,
Flew on the dreamy ego-winged hopes of men,
Being there, he struts with vital vigor boldly,
Until the big bad war wolf,
Eats his fill of stewed naivety.

War wolf knows the thrill will eventually die ...
Wars don't end when the thrill is gone -
Wars just change and carry on!
Wars consume many souls ...
Devastates weary, torn minds of men
After arched rainbows dissipate,
They fade to cloudy and interrupted sleep ...
Nightmares ...
Much worst than death itself ...
As leaders play war games;
Games for and of greedy and uncaring men ...
For power ... $$$
Weeps rivers their pawns -
From welfare food lines, their slaves ...
The working poor, you and I ...
A Disgrace!

A war minute lasts forever -
As our leaders tell us
That we are not suffering ...
We are the good guys
We are the righteous
We are Americans
They tell us that we'll win.
We'll Win what? ...
We've found someone new
Like we always do ...
To blame everything on!

Hallelujah!
For freedom, leaps hope,
Motive for the truly young and truly brave ...
For freedom,
Our Well of Hope,
Must and shall never dry up ...

For freedom,
Many have held a thin line
In hands covered in others blood,
They've given all, including their lives,
To guard a costly and unpredictable line
Stretched across the bloodthirsty garden of man
A line, that occasionally, separated food from famine.

Horses are loosed from their stables;
Fever pitched were their pretty manes;
The calvary is already nearing Flanders fields;
There's going to be a hell of a price to pay!
A fleshy battle is about to ravish man!
The poppies are blooming way too fast ...
Near the fort on the briny sea.

The Marines claim a lonely and bitter coast,
Mission impossible is not an option, never was -
The Navy and Army have a job to do,
There is no hope in this sinister domain ...
What do you believe in? ...
Jesus please save us!

I heard someone say about war;
It is about as useful as an honest man;
Living in a dishonest and harsh brotherhood ...
A brotherhood of fear ...
For freedom ...
Cries the choking hand of war!

America's last stand lies in castles of courage & honor Deep inside the battleground of U & I These walls can not be demolished with bulldozers These castle fortresses can not be conquered with guns Because the last war is not an enemy This battle is fought for castles of U & I And we must fly our flags high in pride The last castles are fortresses of U & I A grave is just a grave without honor A day is just sun rise and sunset without courage Every breath is wasted, if we don't fly flags over U & I

This gave me cold chills, although I suspect that we may not totally agree on
politics. I do not believe in wars, and don't think they accomplish their stated
purposes. I think they are primarily fought so that vapid, ineffective Commanders-
in-Chief can swell their egos and express their testosterone-tinged inferiority complexes.
I also think that they mostly just lay up generations of hatred that eventually come home
to roost and cause more wars. The dead are never the rich and powerful, after all,
but the poor and disadvantaged. Anyway, this is very well done. Kudos on this one.

Hi Shy Poet,
Throughout this reading I am recalled to
experiences I've had of being caught up in the fervor of a crowd excited by particular charged emotions. It is amazing the triggers by which we can be made to surrounder our powers of personal choice if we are not mindful of what is influencing us.
Very thought provoking. Vicky
