Children of darkness

They all

Fear the darkness

For they have been visited

By the terror

Their hearts torn out

Forced to live an empty life

Everything becomes an assault

Bombardment

To heightened senses

Seeking stillness

That never seems to fall

No reprieve from the turmoil and

Day by day

Night by night they try to live this life

Of not knowing or remembering

Why

They fear the

Darkness

Remembering is essential, isn't it. In every case, loss of memory is the worst thing. Sometimes, it can produce a feeling of fake security, but it generally doesn't last. One thing that makes us human is the notion of past, present and future. Recovering our past is an important step against dehumanizing trauma, I believe.

Beautifully written, with soft, smooth rhythm.
You may want to read my poem "Bits and Pieces".

All the best,

Axilea

Darkness was a friend to me as a kid because I could hide better, or so I thought. At least I could get lost in there for awhile. Great piece and I wish you would write more. Need to see more. MORE i TELL YA! Oops, lost myself for a minute. I'm not normally so OUTSPOKEN (That's not emtirely true, but it sounded good.)

this is heavy in its tone and the space between the lines isolates us, puts us even more ....alone, hopeless.. .hauntingly so. ..darkness from without makes way for the darkening of our spirits as well; and from withIN is much more terrifying.. .these children [as we all once were; children] cannot shake the obsidian off of their skins, and what would happen if they COULD remember how the darkness came to be so frightening? either it would assuage their fears of heighten them. ..the hope of this is that they still soldier on; the power of blind faith perhaps? being 'still' is hard, even in the strongest of us; but i hope perseverance will be their triumph in the end; despite this suffocating empty black.. .
.ness.
