looking down
on some one I always looked up to
is hard
I am no longer that little boy
begging for you[r] admiration
attention
as much
we grow
up
apart
then back together again
our tangled vines reaching for the
sun

Yet, you are being pulled
downward, back
into this cold earth, as are the
shrinking snow piles, who’s
Icy……. slush we kick off our boots

I see the sadness in the snow banks of your
eyes….so so misty
the struggle to maintain
dignity

Though

Neither speaks the
word, aloud
we nod,.... understanding to the
other
this may be our last
time to tie up
loose ends of the burdens
we shared
we cared, we own
Dad,…….we will walk the trails …again
together, I promise

What a poetic expression of love and admiration. Sometimes our eyes, a nod, a smile, speak eternally for us...as did this poem...for your Dad! Beautiful.

My ends are still as loose as they were a year ago. Hope someone ties me up soon. This limbo is paralyzing me.

Having just returned from a funeral, the poignancy of this piece got me right in the throat...and the heart.
The wistfulness of all that wasn't said and was said is superb! How do you say so much by not saying certain things???

....."words, aloud". .. .
there arent really any [words] that pierce any more beautifully than these. ..so what to say that ahsnt already been spoken or breathed or felt?
the situation itself renders one silent, tenderly amazed at the grace in which you capture each fleeting moment; each small thing, a hand trembling, a shoulder drooping, a sigh of years. ..the delicate ache to hold on and somehow be able to elt go.. .
this is hauntingly spoken; such desperate reality in which a soul, a man, a BEing is cherished....
those words above i typed arent even comparable to what you give, to what you openly penned. ..
mon dieu
how rare you must be.
i'll jsut be quiet now and sit at your feet.

It's hard to know how one feels in times like this...but you have done a masterful job in the undertaking.

Peace, always,

Dad,…….we will walk the trails …again
together, I promise

A truly heartfelt piece, my friend. I lost my Dad eight years ago now, and I still miss him immensely, and I, too, hope we'll be able to walk those trails again, together, some day.

I remember these thoughts, these feelings. Fourteen years ago I looked at my father and wondered the same things. Your piece is stunning in its poignancy, Stan.
