I see this labeled Johnson's war down below, but he honestly inherited the load of crap from John F. Kennedy's earlier actions, and I even have a friend who served in ranger forces on clandestine missions there under Eisenhower. You have it right, Jasmin, that Macnamara's genius didn't substitute for a clear spiritual perception of right and wrong--too much paranoia of communism for one thing, much of it justifiable. I would bring back the dead I knew to see what has happened, but I don't know if I could stand to watch them cry. It is interesting that for your series of poems you have chosen the germanic spelling Amerika rather than the standard spelling America--a commentary or revelation of feeling there?.....Jerry

Nam was a bad scene for America -- another war of politics and funny games -- our nation's pride suffered a great set back during that conflict -- as brave Americans fought and died for a just cause in a field of battle designed by politicians to never conquer, though they were able, capable and dedicated to the causes of freedom -- Johnson's War will long endure in the memory of America -- as for Mac, I'll judge him not -- that is up to God -- peace and love my friend -- Jon Michael

Contrition from politicians is like those famous croc tears, remember the one that said "I am not a crook"? or the one that challenge us to find if he was adulterous, or that other that was Halliburn head honcho and the real President in Charge but was over the Law?

I just watched a documentary about his life, and his contrition. But I doubt that we've learned a thing from it; war still rages on, and it probably always will.

Jas, a fitting tribute, indeed, and perhaps there is one upside to the downside of his decisions. There is now an entire generation of us that has learned that war is not the answer.
