CONVERTED CARRIER HMS FURIOUS HELPED SAVE BELFAST FROM EVEN MORE DEVESTATION DURING A GERMAN AIR RAID.

Belfast was bombed during world war two
When the German's attacked our great yard
The aircraft factory was hit bad as well
But Belfast stood firm and stood hard

They followed the Dublin line up to Belfast
But a carrier was in having some repair
HMS Furious was the name of this modified ship
And for two nights her guns filled the air

Furious was launched in 1916
So she fought in both wars one and two
But those two nights in Belfast, alone, she fought
Used all her ammo in her fight for the free

She helped in the sinking of the Tirpitz
When at Norway her planes gave it grief
Now the Murmansk convoys that Tirpitz attacked
Could at last breath a sigh of relief

But in 48 The Furious had outlasted her use
And they scrapped her on a grey dismal day
But the people in Belfast should never forget
How the furious fought to keep terror at bay

It always amazes me how people can write historical poems so well, like yours. I really enjoyed this alot, a bit of history I never knew.

an outstanding write Gerry
They used her and abused her
after she gave her all,
after it was all over
after all the songs were sang
they added the final insult
and rolled her over......
Peace be with you

William

Oh what a wonderful piece of history. It is a shame that they scrapped such a glorious ship, but the memory lingers on doesn't it...

Be always safe,
Karen

Interesting history here, Gerald. Thanks for sharing. My mother's roots are Irish. Her maiden name was Croke, her mother's was Carew, and there's also Shine in the mix.
