floating down a
lazy yellowed liver
like syrup amber colored
sweet like nectar
sober now but never somber
floating down a
lazy yellowed liver
throat parched thirst
jaundiced eyes
now tangy and tart
as hot as ice
sober as inebriated
floating down a
lazy yellowed liver
without a paddle
or rudder of a chance
in hell of staying
sober like a judge
the hanging kind
sentenced to death
by jaundice
floating down a
lazy yellowed liver
full of whiskey dreams
and a gal once called me
a pissant
I guess she was right
cause I always sprayed
my boots
a long legged beauty
laughed at my drunken lies
sober & jaundiced
floating down a
lazy yellowed liver
of drunken toasts
and liquored wishes never true
with jaundiced eyes
which couldn’t see
the river for the stream
I sober up for a ride
just to get beached
floating down a
lazy yellowed liver
heading for a cemetary
full of regrets
sober now forever

very well written ... makes some valid points ... moderation is the key ... in fact, the medical association suggests a man consume 2 drinks a day for the benefit of his heart ...
Sad story, stopping the drink does not make one sober, the real work comes after you have drained the blood of the booze. Some people never get that part, once one purges those seven deadly sins, the promises of sobriety come forth. Warmth and Love to you. Carin' Spirit.
So sad Dale, for alcoholism is dreadful, you lose who you are as well as family, friends, health and at the end, life. Great honest tragic write. Love and hugs, Bonnie
Just so happy you survived!!
