time, on your hands

what happens to you,

when time is on your hands

you reach out

 with open arms,

seeking, searching

 for companionship,

leaving only hope,

 to soothe your heart

as you learn to swim

wishing not to be, alone

coming up,

 empty handed

tears rolling down

 slipping silently,

into the sea

 no one can hear

what happens to you,

when time is on your hands

like sand slips

 through your fingers

so goes time

 in the hour glass,

grain by grain,

 spinning into dust

left only, grasping air

such yearning and tenderness which deserves answers, deserves slow time passing in answer's fulfillment. A soul cry that searches for its corresponding echo. Contemplative and vulnerable. Lovely, Dale. xx

Obviously written by a man who has obviously experienced loneliness. Beautifully heart wrenching.

This poem feels sad to me. As if the voice here is searching for something and never finds it. The longing is haunting! Love and Hugs,
Sheila

We are aware beyond what we can see and touch--of the cruel grip that time has on our temporal bodies. Is this the reason we rush about and fill every waking moment with activity to try and push it into the background? It's when we are quiet and at rest when that emptiness brings awareness of where we really are in time. The soul yearns for true connection and meaning. Brilliant use of metaphor--being pulled under water and fighting for breath. This is a write that is disturbing in that many can relate, if we pause long enough to really grasp it's meaning...Love, Lin

Time, like sand can never be held, the tighter you hold on to it, the faster it slips away from your hand. Your poem presents a deep insight into one elusive facet of life - time. The start "what happens to you, when time is in your hands...and the closing "spinning into dust left only, grasping air" can relate to life itself, being lost into emptiness.
