keeping the demons away

dreaming just to keep
the demons away
turns out it's a wash
when it comes down to it
nightmares reign

the shadows grow long
and the woods close in
as the sun goes down

the wind flies by
tickling clouds
drifting overhead
and the songs
hum and spark
low rumblings and flashes
tame the moon

a bulbous tune
investigates tall beams
running strong
down lovers lane
keeps the demons at bay

the brokenhearted
break down and cry
seems it's the only way
love can rise again
now she is weeping
and the world
she's turning

while dreams have
been sleeping
seems moments have
been creeping
ever so quickly
they pass away
just drifting

the sun suddenly rises
one more time
just to keep the demons away
if only we'll learn to fly
the night creeping
into silent stars
tumbling into another future

tears in our eyes
knowing it's already
passed us by
happening in vast lifelines
of electric shock
mumbling mantras
just to keep the demons at bay

I had nightmares as a child and God knows there were demons. I am fortunate that I now only dream and a lot of the time, I want to get back into the dream I just had. Meaningful write, Dale. Thank you. Love and peace,

A unique and intriguing insight into the world of dreams and demons and nightmares et al.... A vivid pot-pourri that encapsulates the relentlessness of the gut-gripping anxiety and trepidation. This makes me think of sleeping within a howling gale, when the external violence of sound and vibration very much infiltrate the realms of disturbed slumber. I watched a BBC documentary on sleep and dreams this week on YouTube... it was fascinating! One scientist maintains that the human race would cease to exist without experiencing nightmares to prepare us for the problem-solving we have to do in daily life! Compelling writing here, Dale. xx

no doubt, demons must be corralled by inspired energy and controlling negative emotion ...

very well written, Dale ...

Dale,

Very well written. Sometimes we don't want to face life, it's easier to dream.

THERE IS NO WAY ANY HUMAN BEING, WITH ALL OUR HUMAN FRAILITIES, CAN KEEP THE DEMONS AT BAY (LK 22:31-32) BUT WE CAN RESIST AND LEAVE THE BATTLE TO THE EXPERT SWORDSMEN; JESUS...HIS BLOOD IS MIRACULOUS. THANKS FOR REMINDING ME OF THIS IN THIS WELL DONE WORK AND BLESSINGS.
