While walking among the graves I had a ghostly encounter from my past
Walking in the graveyard, in solitude,
Somber and reflective, was my attitude.
This was a place so peaceful and still,
I was cloaked in sadness, I related to the sad call of the whippoorwill.
Suddenly I felt a chill, I feared I wasn't alone,
I heard a soft whimpering and then a moan.
Walking amid tombstones, bathed in the light from the silvery moon,
Was a wee spirit lamenting," Gone too soon, Gone too soon."
I must admit, I was taken aback,
I was frightened and amazed, that was a fact!
The child stood still and looked at me,
She asked," Why are you here again? Why can't you just let me be?"
My eyes misted with unshed tears,
Why was she so angry that I was here?
She demanded," Why do you still come here and walk around?"
"You disturb the slumber of those who sleep under the ground"
" You must let go and say good-bye!"
" My spirit belongs with GOD on high!"
" Everytime I try to walk towards the light",
" Your love calls me back, it is too strong to fight!"
" I know you love me, but please let me go!"
" Be happy for me, for I love you so!"
" The wreck wasn't your fault, I don't blame you!"
" You did your best, all that you could do!"
" I know that you feel that I was taken too soon"
" My sudden departure left a gaping wound"
" Please move on, let me go, say good-bye",
" I'll wait for you in heaven and we will be together again, by and by"
" I whispered," Good-bye Shelby, I love you, now go into the light!"
I watched her fade away, knowing that she was with GOD and was all right!"

Nothing is more soul wrenching that the lost of one of our children.
Having said that, all my tenderness goes to Shelby as it went all the way to my own child.

A very moving poem.
