Afraid To Love Her

Trust Issues, fear of opening up and taking the risk to love, made him back away from her.

He was afraid to love her, to let his feelings show,
So he mutely sat by and let her go.
She reached out to him, but he shied away,
He decided to put off his feelings for one more day.
He kept her truly confused about what he did feel,
Was she reading him wrong?, What was hope and what was real?
Each were loners, steeped in past pain,
Each spoke through poetry, again and again.
Attraction, affection, innuendo's waltz daily played,
Flirting made a fire and denial made it fade.
She was his fantasy lover each night,
She whispered her feelings in his ear and held him tight.
He feared her passionate nature, would he be consumed?
Would his attraction to her be his doom?
We shall never know how this might have played,
For he remained silent and she just drifted away.

I guess some feel that never saying would hurt less than having that love and possibly losing it. As both drift away, there is emptiness felt here along with hurt. Definitely not better than taking that chance, in my eyes at least. Expressed so well here.

Sometimes the pain of pride separates two hearts that really should beat as one. Love can be found or lost in so short a time frame that if we blink it is gone forever and we are only left with the "What ifs" to keep us company for the rest of our lives.
