Happy Holidays! I am constantly thankful for the amazing people who come to our church – and give of themselves in so many ways. It is often because of the holiday spirit that our ministry is able to share God’s love, offer joy and inspire hope. A first-time attender to our church, Jacques Fleury, felt that spirit when he came to church recently, and led him to write the following poem. I thought it was perfect to share in celebration of the holiday season:


To Be A Happy Man

Weary of being downtrodden, Weary of being disenchanted, I beseech the heavens To singe me back to life; To see the invisible before me, To feel what seems to elude me, To be awakened to wonders, To transcend barriers, To leap in ethereal bliss, To bounce in majestic mists, To see beyond a recoiled flower, To receive spirit with power, And in the midst of this self-imposed wretchedness, To Ponder: How does one find happiness?

Is it to gather as much as one can? No, for this notion has tried and failed. Is it to boast as much as one can? No, for this notion has tried and failed. Is it to be as ambitious as one can? No, for this notion has tried and failed. Then to mitigate my frown, These words Came tumbling to the ground: “To be a happy man, you must lend a helping hand.” Ah, ha! For happiness, I must take a stand; After all, it has been said: “You gonna give to grow.” Now I know what I should of known:

For happiness I must take a stand! Give a helping hand, To those standing in quick sand; “To be a happy man, you MUST lend a helping hand.”
