Connecticut the nutmeg state, and Insurance capital of the world.

To Live In Connecticut (Becca's Challenge) by Amber "V" Moonstone 11/30/08 Connecticut the nutmeg state. Connecticut the Insurance Capital of the World I was born in Berlin, Connecticut Both my parents were Italian Americans Their parents from Italy. I was the oldest of five children, we moved around quite a bit, but we always gravitated back to Berlin. There was an annual agricultural fair every year. We got the first Friday of the weekend that kicked off the oxen pull competition. It was quite exciting to watch such beautiful creatures do their thing. I lived near a pond and in the winter I was able to ice skate because global warming wasn't happening then. The winter's were long and very cold. Winters in Connecticut were full of New England memories. We built snowmen and had snowball fights There were bon fires and roasting marshmellows, snow angels, snowbound days off from school watching Shirley Temple movies and drinking hot ovaltine. Then there is the Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe houses on Farmington Ave. The Aetna, Travelers, and Cigna home offices in Hartford. The Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casinos. The Stonington Light House, New London Harbor, Naval Submarine Base, Shrine of Mary in Litchfield, Mashantucket Pequot Indian Museum. The famous UnConn Huskies Basketball Women and Men's teams, the old home of the New England Whalers hockey team, The New Britain RockCats (Minn. Twins team) The view of Long Island from my grandparents cottage in Niantic. Rocy Neck Beach, Sound View Beach, Harkness Park, Branford Bay, Thimble Islands, Meriden Tower, Sleepy Giant State Park, Niantic Women's Prison, New Gate Prison, Air Museum in Windsor Locks. The Wadsworth Antheneum museum. The Colt manufacturing Company of firearms, the Essex Steam Train that is still running, Lego Co., Pratt and Whitney Aircraft, United Technologies, The oldest amusement park in the country, Lake Compounds, now owned by the Hershey Corporation. The Peabody Museum in New Haven, and Barnum and Bailey's Museum in Bridgeport. Mystic Aquarium, Mystic Seaport, Mystic Pizza, The Long Island ferry, The Trolley Museum in South Windsor, Nathan Hale House, The Goodspeed Opera House, Ivoryton Playhouse, The Bushnell Memorial Theater, Trinity College, St. Joseph's College, Yale University, Weslyan University,The Institute of Children's Literature. Paul Newman, Katherine Hepburn, Billy Joel, Michael Bolton, Tom Cruise, all reside or resided in Connecticut. The best thing about Connecticut is the fall season and it's brilliant foliage. Also many apple orchards, old inns, and quaint antique shows. Life in Connecticut is beautiful, it's only an hour in any direction and you are in another state. Two hours by train to NYC. One hour to Springfield, Massachusettes, three hours to Boston, Massachusettes, one hour to Providence, Rhode Island. I am proud to live in Connecticut, and wouldn't trade my life for anything.

It sounds like my kind of place and a lot like my own native Nova Scotia Amber...will have to put on my list of places to visit someday. Have already made excursions into Maine and NH and loved them both.

Why Connecticut? It's a beautiful state; it has four seasons (Fall is particularly gorgeous); it's where my friend Amber lives. =] THAT'S why Connecticut! This write is tempting me to pull up stakes here and move there. (Oh, if I only could!!) LOL Well done!

The best thing about Connecticut is the fall season and it's brilliant foliage.
Also many apple orchards, old inns, and quaint antique shows.

New England truly has many charms, and wandering there in the Fall is always marvelous.

Not forgetting someting Amber? as a Graduated from one of the finest learning houses, "The Institute of Children Literature" it should be add to make Connecticut's lustre more appropiate to praise the many bards that got the inspiration there!
You just took us in a tour of the State that not even the Tourism office can match.

Amber, as you know, I too am from Connecticut, (Southington), and lived there for more than 45 years. I still have family there, and a piece of my heart will always remain there. Nice write!
