When We Close Our Eyes

When we close our eyes
And when we stop caring
That's when Good dies
And Evil comes thriving.

When we close our eyes
And pretend all is well
We condone the lies
That our leaders tell.

When we fail to see
What goes on around us
We may lose liberty
And not make a fuss.

We may slowly be chained
And our freedoms taken
Check and balance may wane
And we may not awaken.

Our country may fall
Into deep debts and ills
Then Poverty calls
That may drain peoples' will.

A people in Apathy
Is ready food for Greed,
A great Love for country
Is what we will need.

To ignite Patriotism
Our pen will set fire
Words of great Wisdom
We hope people acquire.

We pray Good will arise
In whatever we write
When we close our eyes
We know we have done right.

Very good poem indeed. It has been said that in order for tyranny to flourish, all that is required is for good people to do nothing!

To be sure one never should close one's eyes, then the surprises will be not so horrendous as they are. People with closed eyes can pretend being blind, the blind can say they never saw it coming!

Amen, Cynthia. Just one thing tho. Don't call them "our leaders." They are nothing but greedy a-- dictators in disguise. Our real leader is God. Well said, my friend. God bless.
