They Say You Pray for Me

My experience is that actions speak louder than words, and silence speaks volumes more. What can a prayer mean to God if not lived from the heart here and now? Just my thoughts...

You said that you would pray for me,
thought I needed a miracle.
Maybe you were right,
because I didn’t see
how soon you’d push me out
and pull the gift of you from my life.

I always wanted you to know what
miracles had already unfolded
within me because you
were there, but every time
I tried to tell you, you looked away,
seemed distant, seemed not to care.

Perhaps you simply didn’t understand
that yours was the hand that led me
to the miracle,
yours were the eyes that said
no compromise; a miracle
and no less is what I deserved.

But the miracle came and you didn’t see.
It was always something more
you wanted for me.
And then you left abruptly,
abandoned me, slammed doors left
and right on a cold, dark night.

Without giving any reasons, you
snuffed out the candle of hope
that had taken so long
to rekindle in me. The few times
I found some spark again,
you blew cold wind my way.

And they tell me
you still pray for me.

great fluidity of emotion ... it doesn't matter if others pray for us, only that we pray for ourselves ...

Dawn, they say that reality bites, but this poem here devours. It tears at the soul, and leaves it in tiny pieces. Fantastic write.

Dawn a superb poem of heartbreak! It sounds like a person tried to make you in his image, and perhaps his leaving is a favor, if you can look past the hurt and abandonment...
