Sarah…
You became my Street of Dreams…
As I consumed the richness of your song
From a generation before me.
The amber tone of your golden voice
Will long be remembered for years to come.
I once saw you perform in a club by the bay…
Your Golden Gated voice brought us all to our feet
As we so carefully listened with our ears and heart…
Saw visions in the colors of your sound.
14K gold notes…
With the sometime blueness of a sapphire upon black velvet
Became you…
“The Divine One”.
To be amongst the tops in jazz…
The stories you could tell…
And yet you need not really speak…
For your vibrato told us all we could ever know.
“You’re upbeat now Sarah…
You’re swingin…Your way up there…
Don’t worry where you’re goin’ Sassy…
You’re goin’ with the greats!”
Today the piano could not find a key
To make melody of its tears…
The bass could not feel any lower…
And the brushes and cymbals soften the off time of your death.
The horns are blowing Tenderly for you Sarah…
Can you still hear them?
How the sadness of your passing
Makes the rhythm of my heart slow down…
And my minds tempo a bit off.
Funny…That rainy day is here.
I still dream Sarah…
And my feet are still on the street.
I’ll be listening for you in the night…
When the sky is crystal clear.

Great tribute to a great singer on level with Ella and Billie.
