Today I heard three of the most precious words I could ever hear.... I wrote this poem to a step-aunt of mine who has always been like a Mother to me..even when my own Mother was still alive.
She means the world to me...
To Mom
You re-entered my life today with just three little words..
No…not the three famous words, ‘I love you’…
Those you said to me when we said goodbye.
You said, ‘Jen, it’s Mom’..
And those were the sweetest words I’ve heard in years.
I couldn’t believe my ears.
I wondered for a moment if I was dreaming…
And then you spoke again..
You said that you’re back on the islands for a couple of months
This was such a pleasant surprise.
Hearing your voice today made me so happy.
It’s been years since we’ve seen each other.
And although we communicated a couple of times over the years,
Knowing you were ill made me worry and miss you even more.
You have no idea how excited I feel now that you’re here.
I remember you always being there for me
Whenever I needed to talk.
I can’t wait to see you and have you hold me again.
Hug me.. and make me feel like the child I once was to you.
To have your shoulder to cry on…
Your sweet voice to comfort me…
Just to have you home again feels like heaven.
Even though we don’t see each other often,
Nor do we talk to each other very much
I am always sure that when we do meet,
Things are always the same.
I could tell you anything and you would understand
exactly what I’m saying, what I’m thinking.
And what I’m feeling.
Our closeness doesn’t depend on us being together.
Today when we chatted, you brought back so many great memories,
Not only of the good times we had,
But of times with others who mean a lot to me.
I am just so anxious to see you, Mom..
Be safe till we meet again.
I love you.
A wonderful warm feeling that shows how much you both mean to each other, and how relationships are the most important things. A beautiful write, thanks for sharing with us Jenni
