Speaking as one who started school in 1959, it was curious how we had to sing songs or read tales that contained words that we had no a clue about. We did not bother to ask the teacher to explain. Probably out of fear or awareness of our inadequacy to understand but did not want to stand out from the rest. Amusing thing too about the songs was that we sang them with such gusto at the right part that requred emphasising. I mean, what was 'Fe fi fo fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman' all about?
This second book in Edie's 'Puddle' series is filled with wonderful catchy rhyming poems that have positive nostalgic messages. Her whimsical illustrations carry the poems along on ripples of warm vibrant colours.
