(When people break your heart so disrespectfully like you never loved eachother...From Lemonade Street, it was first titled "The Gift")
Cruel disregard
Of my delicate heart
The smirk in your eyes
The restlessness of that left foot
So distastefully
You called it off
I may as well
Have been a ghost
You brushed past me
Taking it all with you
I'm leaving you a gift
Chosen with love and care;
"Here is my heart, take it with you
I need it not at heaven's gate"
(Someday when it all settles in, when sunken ships have risen to shore and you've
been through hell and back, you will miss me.)
Powerfully stated for sure. Love and best wishes to you,
Regis

Your words emote strongly - I can feel the air in and around your words. I love "delicate heart" - the highly sensitive among us can surely relate to all these two words, paired together, mean.
I like this poem, Bernice. It's strong and good. I think the last part is the strongest. However, that's an interesting shape for this poem-- almost a cross. Is that intentional? I tried to read it with a Christian conotation, but I didn't get it at all, untill I read it without that context.
As J. Earl said, hindsight is 20/20 and for those who hurt us, they may not realize they're doing so until they look back and reflect and even then, it is not a guarantee. The only thing we can assure ourselves of doing is moving past the hurt and moving on with our lives.
I enjoyed your poem, but especially the last two lines. So much truth rests within them, specifically.
...this is a wonderful write Bernice...I can see the nervous up and down...restless left foot...perhaps to sprint...and so he did. Someday that left foot will know your shoes...perhaps he will recognize the soul...your heart.
very well written...

Using Calgary as a backdrop the author satirizes the self-serving nature of the public as it continues to fatten itself, not only physically, but egotistically as well.
In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
I can only hope that someday... somehow... she understands the loss.
