In remembrance of my favorite author V.C. Andrews...and dedicated to all who've known the bitter taste of Abuse. It is such a painful death of the spirit until....

Amberlee
Amberlee
come out and play
mommy's dead
daddy's not
but don't be afraid

Amberlee
Amberlee
show us your face
Tommy's here
been ten years now
that closet has no space

(Amberlee was like any little girl, sweet, innocent and carefree until her daddy started playing games in the dark...so she ran into the closet at age 5 and never came out. Her friends would come everyday and sing her songs, so she could come out  and play with them...)

Nobody has the right to destroy another's life. We have to learn to listen to those who suffer in silence.

Lovely and disturbing poem.

kind of sad but a great poetic reminder of abuse, Sometimes though we have our own selves in the closet, afraid to come out because of our fears, fear of failure, fear of rejection etc hugs:-)

Bernice, this could not be written any better.
The hell of it is that it has to be written at all.
I love the way you write. - Gene.

I had a friend in San Francisco whose girlfriend used to hide in the closet when she was upset. She was there when I came to visit so I never got to meet her. Some of us didn't have closets to hide in. I hid in the streets and later in the foothills near our place. There are a whole lot of people hiding from each other.

and that is a very dark closet that some children remain in for a life time (the silent child within) it causes many personality issues & splits for some victims & it also is a primal means of survival for trauma, your write is powerful Bernice in more ways than you may realize.
Your words encourage safety to the fear.

Bernice, abuse rages in many areas of our country and the sad thing about it "no" one knows. The darkness of this poem is felt in my soul and I pray for those in the hands of abusers.
