If your father is no longer with you, think of the good times you had together

Bitter Sweet Father’s Day

Another Father’s Day is passing us by
A bitter sweet day for our Dads that have died

Let us not think of their death, think of
the things we’ll never forget.

When I was a child I was proud making
Daddy breakfast in bed.  Burnt toast,
orange juice with seeds, coffee so
strong it could buckle one’s knees

But for Dad the breakfast was that of a chef
As he praised that mess again and again.

For a father’s day present, the ugliest tie,
He raved and raved about his beautiful present
Although I knew it was a little white lie.

When I was older I sometimes asked for a little change
He always rattled his pockets, I finally asked him why.
“It’s nothing honey, nothing at all, I was saying to my money
a fond good-bye “

When I was lonely, he played chess with me, sometimes
I beat him, sometimes he’d beat me.  But when I beat him
he’d gleefully say, I must be one heck of a teacher
to have my student beat me!

Dad and I went to baseball games, he’d yell and
scream, and quite embarrass me.  But what I’d
give to hear my Dad say once more, “You guys are terrible
you can’t play ball.”

Later when Daddy died, I cried, and cried until there were no more tears.
But I could have sworn I heard my beloved father say, “knock if
off, no more tears today.
I’m no longer with you on this earth, that’s true
Be sure, my little girl, I’m always with you.”

Very touching remembrance of all fathers -- not just yours. No fathers are perfect -- we all know that -- but choose the good memories wisely ... as he tried his best to be the best.
Let the little girl who lives in your heart remember that! Susan

Mary, how sweet and touching this Father's Day poem is, I related to it so much and your words rang with truths and honesty. This was a great tribute to your Dad and I know he would be proud to know you wrote such a fine poem about him. This is a definite keeper.

Believe me, I know. Our daddy just died, so it was a very hard day for us yesterday. We did keep our minds (and hands) busy yesterday (helped out at the local restaurant for eight hours, rolling silverware for the servers, so they didn't have to do it!). I also went to church yesterday morning, cried for the first time since daddy died. I will have more of those crying days ahead as I continue to mourn daddy's death. How I miss him....

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :( >tears! <

Beautiful, heartfelt write!

This is a very poignant write and of so true of little girls trying to be of help to their father's. Fixing breakfast like you did was alright with him He was so proud of you. I will never forget the Love my father had for me and he was a quiet shy type, mother was domineering one, but I love him still. He passed away on his birthday March 23 1972. Sadly I miss him as you do yours. Let us cry together today. Honorable poem and well done and says all.
