Spring turns to Summer

inspired by a co-worker who unwittingly showed me how time had flown.

Walking in his office yesterday,
I saw three strange looking lamps.
He explained they were his daughter’s.
When he cleaned her room, he

took them all away.

I looked at him confused, and asked

Why he did such a thing   He said I had

To, she started college yesterday.

He kept the lamps on his desk to remind

Him of his little girl, the youngest of his

Four children, the light of his world

I said nothing but it was hard to believe

The last time we had talked about her,

She was only thirteen!

I looked at the man I had known so long
his brown hair turned to gray.  We had

That and much more in common.
How did we get this way?

It was a hard thing to swallow and harder

To believe, a young man and woman, both
in their prime, but spring turned to summer
in the blink of an eye.

Time is hard to understand, and something
we want to deny.  But mirrors, calendars

And growing children, simply do not lie.

I love this one Mary, so true "Spring turned to summer in the blink of an eye" . It reminds me of one of my poems titled "Our Seconds" which maybe I should post it...?? Very touching subject, nicely done.
Love, Ankin.

So true, Mary. Sometimes when I close my eyes it is as though I can "feel" time flowing past my face like a breeze.

Love and best wishes to you,

Regis

I'm with you Mary. I feel in my thirties yet I am going to be 60. Yikes!!I don't know where the time went.Yet- I know I am younger today than I will ever be again, and I know age isn't a number it's a state of mind and in my mind I am just starting to live!!Just starting to learn. Yes, I have learned alot- but in many ways I am just starting to learn many new things. Kind of exciting really.Loved this poem.

With Love,
Cindy

Mary,
Poignant capture of a moment and a feeling in the great passage of time. This is very fine.

I love this, Mary. It recalls that nostalgic Sinatra lyric:

One day you turn around and its summer,
Next day you turn and it's fall,
And the springs and the winters of a life time,
Whatever happened to them all?
