The Day of the Dead
Souls tremble in fear
Unknowing
As autumnal winds
Carry the voices of the Bereaved
To the Living
Astral trends reminiscent of Eternity
Vibrate like ethereal recordings
As dances of celebration
Tune the harmony of Graveyard
Celebrations
Life remains
Efervescently joyful
Wondrous in its exuberant giving
Dichotomous harmonies of spirituality
Bely the disutopic dreamings
Of Egocentric Humanity
Knowledge of Eternity's truths
Are lost in momentary denial
As centuries of karmic debt
Build in glorious retribution
We listen to these Voices of the Past
Whispering to our Souls
On this day
The Day of the Dead
Day of my Birth
They speak to me in esoteric ramblings
Of concepts sublime
Realities beyond time and space
Too difficult to share or even to relate
To those who refuse to recognize
The promise of Death's Rebirth
Pierce the Veil
We must
With our hearts' understanding
Remember the Dead
We must
With our souls' commiseration
For we are the Dead
Of tommorrow's memory
Cycles of Eternity remind us unceasingly
Of our responsibility
Days of short duration
Darkness frames the quickened hours
With dream-like intensity
As moments flee the ravages of time
All Hallow's Eve becomes
All Saint's Day
Then the Veil between the Worlds
Closes once again
And we emerge from these Days of the Dead
Reawakened to the Blessing of Life

Ahhhhhhhhh Feliz dia de los muertos aka archaically Todos Santos!
This is a awesome write of inspiration and spirituality, as well as about El dia de los muertos! I have been to El Dis De Los Muertos Fiestas many time and each and every time a true learning experience...siempre bonita y grande!
When I first came to The Den one of my first pieces was titled "Todos Santos", so naturally your title REALLY drew me in!!!!
I definitely enjoyed immensely this piece!!!!

Wonderful!! :) Perhaps being born on that particular day has given you a conduit to voices we others can't hear, Mark. Comfortably settled into your mind, occasionally shaking a bone to rattle you up, whispering of lives and emotions gone by, and to come, one of the lucky few... Whoa, anything I could come up with would only detract from this. I will tell you, though, that I used to visit the graveyard every night while I grew up... never felt alone.... excellent write...

You have written one of the best I've ever read on this topic, I was always fascinated by the fact of All Saints day after All Hallows Eve...My mom would take me to church with her and it was so mysterious to me. though I left the catholic church I never forgot,This brought back memories;-)Exceptional write, beautifully written!

of graves. there friends give each
other sugar cube tomb stones with
their name on it, ,to both remember
and mock death.
one mexicano told me that the whole thing was
liberating to the oppressed -- if death is all
the oppressor can manage
a refreshing concept -- compared to here
when we were choosing a coffin for our mother
a few weeks ago the salesman kept emphasising
that it was airtight and waterproof: what ever happened to
ashes to ashes and all that i thought?
this is a stunning and well
crafted piece a good write
