Living with mommy in his grandparents home
Mommy took off and then left him alone
Poor little sad boy with grandma who's old
She tries her best; has a heart made of gold.

Plays with his videos, and won't go to school
Defiant, rebellious he breaks all the rules
Meeting with friends and staying out late
Hanging out with dad's former cellmate.

Mom comes back to redeem her bad ways
Then she takes off again, this time for days
Roaming the streets to satisfy her lust
Coming back once more and wants him to trust.

She got a job and kept it a while
Pulling him closer and making him smile
He loves his Mom, and says she is cool
He's a bit leery and nobody's fool

That itch is upon her, she leaves one more time
Living another life across two state lines
She wants him to visit; he refuses to go
Living with grandma is all that he knows

Afraid that she'll keep him, in that far away place
He finally agreed, but took no suitcase
The visit didn't go well, Mom slept all day long
He shouldn't have gone, he knew it was wrong

Back to his grandma's with a sigh of relief
He knew that that visit would be nothing but grief
Poor little sad boy went on with his life
Got on the right track, gave up the wildlife

His mom's doing better with a new baby girl
To fuss over and love, and brush her black curls
Poor little sad boy turned thirteen today
And wonders why he was treated that way

She left him with grandma, and put him through hell
She raises his sister, takes care of her well
Deep down resentment and scars on his heart
If only she cared enough right from the start.

Poor little sad boy grew up very fast
Thinking his mom's love was fleeting; won't last
She takes care of sister, but ran out on him
Made him poor little sad boy to satisfy a whim.
