The bell rings
dim and tinny,
the door is made
of sponge so the
knocks are unheard
the key is old, rusted
and ineffective
the “come” is worn
away from the
welcome mat.
the “L” keeps
disappearing
and the “we”
took a walk
in the opposite
direction
out with the
garbage at last;
clean fresh air
Unseen depth below the surface, done so well with such few words.
