I Am Not Mad

I was just feeling relaxed, inhaling the fragrance
Of the bubbles

Can I have you anyway I want you tonight?

I’m thinking a low sexy “yes” but instead I
Get a hesitant “it depends”

Your explanation is that you thought that if you gave me that sexy "yes" and didn't come through, I'd
say you reneged.

Lies -
lies, such lies!

Come through with what?

What do you think I am gonna do to you?
Ha!
Now that would be cutting off YOUR nose to spite MY face now wouldn't it

Do you really think that I’d hurt you, or ask
You to do something that I know you wouldn’t
like?
Besides that, look at your size. I can’t force you
To do anything that you didn’t want to do.

You don’t trust me!
That shatters all that we have
All that we are,
All that I am

No, I’m not angry, stop saying that, I am not angry
I am not angry
I am terribly hurt, crushed, upset.

Who’s wrong?
Me for asking can I have you anyway I want you or
You for hearing I want you to…
You have nothing to do but lie there

Look Ma…no hands
Total control
Can I hold out
Think I’ll cave in and touch her

Have you -
Have you -
Have you anyway I want

Depends -
Depends -
Depends, I hate that word

You don’t trust me.
No trust in intimacy
This just can’t be
You actually think that I’d hurt you

Trust gone?
Trust lost?
Trust, never was?
What, what, what

Taking my request and throwing it in my face
Please leave - just go
I don’t want you to see me
Don’t look at me
I feel so ashamed to be naked before you
I don’t want you to look at my face
I am stripped of everything and feel helpless
And now I wear the insides of my insides on
The outside and they are cringing at what I
Thought was a sexy, appealing request

I am NOT mad; I am hurt
The words have been said, but not the ones I
Expected to hear, so you can’t try and make it
Up with “doing my back”
Please, just get out, get out and leave me alone

I AM mad,
How dare you make me feel this way
Damn you, get out!

Marilyn,
Being hurt isn't something men can understand I suppose? It's happened to me over the years but we patch up and make do and try again. From hurt to anger isn't very far away. Great rant!

Whoa! This was great emotional write!

Next time, just ask him "what do you want for dinner?" and he'll answer, "Nothing."

Then you can sit back and relax won't be feeling like this. Heehee!

Wow... you sure weren't mad... I'm sorry, I know how that can be... I'd say he got an adequate tongue lashing :)

Marilyn, this is very well written. The reader can experience fully the hopelessness and despair in your words. Thank you for sharing this with me!

What an interesting and effective form you've created to let out these feelings! The frustration and anger comes through strongly, forcefully and validates my view that free verse, powered by a lively imagination, is hard to beat when used to articulate an emotive, "in-yer-face" theme such as this one. Sterling effort, Marilyn!
