Floating downwards, like a snowflake in winter,
She felt light and fragile, with an emotional splinter.
She had learned that her love had gone wrong.
Her life felt just like a terribly sad Country song.
When had he fallen in ‘love’ with that other girl…
and decided to give love with another a whirl?
What could she have possibly done that was so bad?
All she knew was she was alone, depressed and sad.
Just yesterday, they had loved each other so much.
She remembered how much he craved her touch.
They would lie in bed for hours and hours.
Once each week, he would bring her flowers.
They would have a candlelit dinner out on the deck.
Afterwards, they would sit on the couch and ‘neck’.
This was a prelude to a passionate night of love’s burning fire,
filled by a night full of whispered words of soulful desire.
The morning after was always tender and bright.
Lit up by the look in his eyes of love’s light.
When did all this emotion just go away?
Now, it seemed there was nothing to say.
He was packing his bags and leaving her now.
She felt so abandoned and beaten somehow.
Could she offer him anything that would make him stay?
Would he want it after all this time had passed anyway?
Should she keep silent and let him go out easy
or should she act as if she didn’t care; light and breezy?
Here she sat in a frozen state of surprise.
She kept remembering the unconcern in his eyes.
Maybe it was best if he left, if this was the way he felt.
Losing him would be like being whipped: it would leave a welt
but, certainly if he didn’t love her enough to stay,
she would be better off without him anyway.
All these things said should make her feel better.
They didn’t. All she had was a Dear John letter.
Tomorrow would come and she would shrug this pain away.
But, she felt pain, disillusioned, cast aside and broken…today.

That "unconcern in his eyes" hit a nerve...had went through that once and never, ever want to live through it again (who does?!!). This is a moving, powerful write that touches the heart and soul.

as if you have seen the bruises in my heart dear poet.... this has been powerful to me... eye-opener... thanks you...
Better off without him, if you ask me. Take the letter and frame it with a caption that says, "saved by a 37 cent stamp." Good write, and tomorrow always comes.

Honey, and I know you can't shrug it away. It has to wear away and somethings it talk a long time or until we meet someone to take their place. My emotions run rampart with my bi polar disorder. I am not normal and do not act normal. I may love someone a whole lot of time after they dump me. Bill

This poem was inspired twofold. One by a poem by a fellow AD author...who wrote a piece on how devastating and sad breakups are (to both of the participents) and the second by my wonderful friend, Beth, who has gone through this experience recently.
The sadness of it all tears at my heart and I can certainly emphathize with this emotion having felt it (multiple times) in my previous incarnation, B.M. (before Mike)...and I certainly hope to never ever feel that particular feeling of desolation again.
